Is there rust in tap water?

For some reason I get stuff in my eyes alot, and the first thing i do is wash them out with tap water. I was thinking Is there rust in tap water? The water lines in my house are copper but what are water towers made from and what about the water lines running under the street? Assuming they are iron or steel wouldn’t there be small rust particles in the water which could get into my eyes?

The water pumped out of the ground around me has rust from the source. Are you asking about eye harming sized flakes only?

Well I lived in a house for a while where the hot water service was putting rust flakes into the water pipe. It never hurt my eye.
They do put carbonates into the water so that the water deposits carbonates onto the pipes, rather than erode the pipes. The insides of old pipes are somewhat coated in white stuff.

All kinds of minerals can be found in tap water and other bad stuff.
Question, how well does your shower head flow??
If you are getting large debris coming in you would probably have the screens in your shower head and in all your faucet spouts clogging ALL the time.
And their are filters to install right on the end of your faucet like this,
HERE
And their are Whole House filters also but you sound like you think it may already be in your house and that is a common thing.
Any water conditioning company’s will do all kinds of testing and they know their business.

There can be. Almost all your faucets have aerators though, so nothing the size of a grain of sand or larger can make it through. You can take your aerators off to see what has been collected. If you find they get plugged often you’d need to look at a different solution.

Can particles smaller than a grain of sand harm the eyes? I’m particularly interested because I heard metal particles stick to the eye and are difficult to remove, I don’t know if rust does however.
