Is there significant wagering on the winners of NASCAR races?

Gambling is big part of most major team sports, but I’ve never heard of there being much wagering on NASCAR races. Is my impression re lack of wagering activity on NASCAR races correct? If so why is this?

Isn’t Nascar fixed? I’ve heard it’s like wrestling where the winners are pre-determined.

I’m thinking that would be news to the drivers, pit crews, car manufacturers and fans.

How, pray tell, would one go about fixing the outcome of a 500-mile race involving 43 cars?

Yeah, sometimes the NASCAR (and it’s NASCAR, not Nascar. It’s an acronym,) rulebook is written in pencil, but that’s a far cry from Mike Helton telling everyone in the drivers’ meeting that Tony Stewart is supposed to win.

Nope.

See, the fans of wrestling know it’s fixed and have known for years (ever?).
I have not heard of one single piece of evidence that would suggest that NASCAR is fixed. In fact, the first time I ever heard such a claim was post 2 of this thread.

Pretty simple to find, if you ask me.

I didn’t mean to hit any nerves. I know absolutely nothing about NASCAR but about a year ago I heard some writer on a sports-talk radio station I listen to going into detail about how it’s all fixed and predetermined. Maybe he was a crackpot but it sounded like a serious interview. I didn’t know any better so I assumed it was all on the level. I’ve also heard some fans say it’s fixed as well but others swear it isn’t.

If Vegas has betting lines for it, though, I guess it has to be real.

The week prior to a race you can pull up the Vegas odds for the various racers much like you can for other sports on-line.
They usually give top drivers and past winners better odds.
T.Stewart 5-1
J.Gordon 4-1
K.Petty 42-1
