I noticed a few weeks ago you can still get it at Walgreens, next to the Emetrol.
For what it’s worth my late mother always swore that a half teaspoon of honey cured any feeling of nausea.
It tastes OK also
Coke Classic seems to be the only exception to the rule about “clear fluids for nausea.” It works for me, too, along with 7-Up and Gatorade. Only Coke though, none of the other dark sodas do it for me.
In as much as food is concerned, I’m big on saltines as well, though a favorite home remedy is potato cakes. They’re very mild, but filling. I’ve actually never made them, but the final product resembles a hamburger patty in size and shape, cooked on the stovetop until golden (but not crispy).
Saltines, potato cakes, and toast are my friends more than I’d like them to be.
A tablespoon of that over a cup of shaved ice–perfect for calming the tummy.
(And Missy Copy Editor is glad to see I’m not the only one nauseated by the misuse of “nauseous!”)
Exactly.
Dad used to go to Jack-In-The Box and get it.
Try chewing gum. It works fine for the queasiness I get after drinking strong tea on an empty stomach, and also for mild heartburn.
I don’t know why it works for nausea, but supposedly it works for heartburn because saliva is alkaline, and chewing gum steps up the saliva flow so it can neutralize more of the acid.
Definitely ginger ale or cream soda, and saltines. I find if I go without eating, that often makes the nausea even worse.
When I had pregnancy-induced hyperemesis, I got some relief from drinking lemonade - as sour as I could stand it - and nibbling pretzel sticks. I don’t think there was anything magic about those two foods, by the way, so any sour/salt combination should help.
ginger tea is excellent - cut up roughly some fresh ginger root (about half an inch or so - you can recycle this over several cups of tea) and dump it in the bottom of a mug. Then add as much lemon juice and honey as you’d normally like for hot lemon and honey. Add boiling water and sip slowly .
If you have a cold this is really good too, and if you have a cold and no nausea, then adding a shot of something alcoholic is even nicer!
Did the OP ever feel better??
Well, no. Sorry, I didn’t get back to you guys, but it turned into a pretty nasty bout of diarrhea (Yay!). I went to a BBQ on Friday night on top of the museum where my girlfriend works here in Paris. It was really dark, and I must have eaten something I wouldn’t have if I could’ve seen it better.
The problem is that by the time I realized it was full-fledged diarrhea and not just one mauvais caca the pharmacies were closed for the night. Now, it’s Sunday, so they’re all closed. However, I actually feel better. I had to get up a couple of times during the night last night, but now I’m fine.
Thanks for all the suggestions though. Actually, I had some ginger tea yesterday, just because it’s what my girlfriend makes whenever someone’s sick. I didn’t know it was good for the nausea.
Thanks, anyway, guys!
