Is there such a thing as an "addictive personality"?

Since I don’t know if there’s a factual answer to this question, I’m unsure if this is the right forum or not. If I’m wrong, sorry about that.

It seems to me that every substance abuser I’ve known has had some similar personality traits. They love drama, they get bored easily, and they’re impulsive. Is there a genuine psychiatric condition by the name of “addictive personality”?

There has been a lot of research done in that area although the current theoretical limitations of personality science means that much more will be done in the future. There are several correlations between addiction and other personality traits. A big one is thrill seekers have a much higher risk of alcoholism and drug addiction than people that aren’t thrill seekers.

Wouldn’t an addictive personality be someone who’s so much fun to be around that when you get seperated from them for long times, you start to go into withdrawl??

I found this about the thrill seeking gene.
That means you can inherit it from your parents too.
Why wouldn’t there be an addictive gene also? It would probably relate to neurotransmitter receptors.

Anybody can get addicted to something if they try hard enough.

I believe there is such a thing as an addictive personality. Having seen people addicted to Gravol, brushing their teeth, Wint-o-Green life savers… hard to believe that all addiction is limited to “thrill seeking”.
