Is “to passdown his knowledge” a dangling modifier because it modifies the neophyte or is it correct as it stands? Thanks!
Dangling modifier? No. With a dangling modifier, there is no word which relates to that modifier. You point out that there are two.
There is also the misplaced modifier, though, which is where the modifier is placed some distance away form the word it’s describing (happens a lot with “only”), but this is not the case here because it’s the sensei who’s passing down knowledge and not the neophyte.
