A guy I work with recently had to make a quick trip back home to Mexico, and I asked him if he would bring me a bottle of some good Mexican tequila. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet and I was wondering what to expect. It’s Cazadores Reposado. Is it good stuff?
Well, “reposado” means “rested.” Meaning the tequila has aged a bit in the barrels. Cazadores ages theirs 2 months in oak. I doubt it’s crap, but as to how good I’ll leave to someone who has tasted it.
Yes, it’s good. The person who does my gardening heard I liked Tequila and brought me a bottle of Cazadores back from Mexico. His brother has an Agave farm so I think he knows what he’s talking about.
The stuff is around $40 a bottle so I bet some people would think it is good.
When I tried it I didn’t like it. I thought it was too harsh for a $40 bottle. YMMV.
I think it’s pretty good, but the problem is that it’s available for something like $30 at Costco, so it’s quite readily available. My friend considers it the “Cheapest Good Tequila”. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s cheaper at Costco than it is in Mexico. The last time I was in Rosarito I did a price comparison and long gone are the days where tequila was 1/2 the price that it was in the USA.
Cazadores sells for less than $200 pesos a bottle here in Guadalajara. I was actually surprised to see that it costs what it does in the USA. I usually drink Don Julio reposado which I feel is far superior to Cazadores and pay around $300 pesos.
Is the worm dead?
it’s pretty decent quality. I’m not a huge fan of the actual flavor, but that’s totally subjective.
Now, now, there’s no worm in tequila. Its addition into tequila is prohibited by Mexican law. It can be, however, found in mezcal which is essentially the same type of liquor, although not produced in the areas where it can legally be called tequila.
My ignorance on this matter has been duly fought. Thank you.
Now what is that at the bottom of that bottle over there?
Hmm, 200 pesos. That’s less than US$20, right? I’ll keep an eye out the next time I’m in Baja!
Thanks for the replies. Would I have just been better off getting a bottle of Patron at the liquor store?
No. That shit is overrated.
