Is this a mine clearing robot?

Seems rather expensive to get blown up all the time, but maybe it’s not all that complicated, and metal is cheap.

Looks like one. The heavy rollers on the front would suffer little damage from anti-personel mines.

It’s an MV4 from a Croatian company called DOK-ING. I think the idea is for the mine clearing vehicle not to get blown up but instead to take a licking and keep on ticking.

Mines are designed to expend most of their energy directly upwards. Energy expended to the side (or worse, downwards) is simply wasted in propelling inoffensive dirt into the air. If you mount a triggering device (chain thresher, plow, etc.) on an arm so the main vehicle is several feet to the side of the exploding mine, the vehicle takes far less damage.

The pressure from the heavy rollers will also tend to go forward at some angle. Thing sand dune slopes.

So the explosion occurs to the front of the rollers, and in front of soil/rock being squashed by some pressure.

No, that’s pretty much it. Roller wheels are far more cheaper and easier to repair than a robotics system.
