In the mythbusters aftershow for ‘seconds to live’ they’re asked the question what they’d do if they had only seconds to live. Tori glances back and forth from Kari to the camera in a way that says he’d do her if … .
Would this be the sort of sexual harassment that leads to HR complaints, sensitivity training, and such, if this happened in a normal workplace and a boss, or malicious coworker saw it?
I doubt it’d result in a lawsuit since it’s a one-time thing and they’ve worked together for many years without any (apparent) problems.
I presume that that exchange was scripted, and approved by everyone involved beforehand. If that’s the case, then it’s no more sexual harassment than actors doing a bedroom scene for a movie.
Besides which, if all the more that was shown was glances, then it’s hard to make the case that it was sexual. All that means is that what Tori would want to do involves Kari in some way. Just because many viewers would want to do something sexual with Kari doesn’t mean that must be what Tori is thinking-- Given the history of the show, it could just as well mean that they’d like to spend their last moments collaborating to blow something up. Which, to be honest, is also something many viewers would want to do with Kari.
Who is being harrassed sexually? Is it Kari because Tori sort of might have wiggled his eyebrows in her direction. Or is it Tori because of the implication that he would only last a few seconds.
For it to be sexual harassment it must be unwanted sexual advances. Kari might be okay with it. And normally it only reaches the level of harassment when the offended party tells the other party that they want them to stop and it doesn’t.
And here I thought the joke was that Kari had given her answer. She had seconds to live, so she wasted it all talking about how she only had seconds to live.
When Kari starts talking, I don’t tend to look at the guys. I had to go back and watch again once I realized I was way past the time something bad was supposed to have happened.
That’s 100% how I read it. Seconds? Seconds? Seconds? Seconds? Grant laughing because she just wasted all her time instead of figuring out what to do.
Anyone finding harassment in that scene is IMO looking way to hard for it and is probably going to find ‘sexual harassment’ just about anywhere. If you really want to find it, look for it in the big boobs episode. It’s scripted, I’m sure and I’m sure Kari even okay’d the script and maybe even signed something saying she wouldn’t sue later, there’s a few funny jokes and camera angles in that one that go a hair past what MB normally does.
For that matter, her first appearance on the show was (in part) because she has a big butt. She was the original they used to cast the rubber posterior for the “sucked out of an airplane toilet” myth.
Yeah, but they didn’t actually use it. They took the 3D model of her butt and modified it to look like an obese one. They could have just as easily drawn a fat ass from scratch, so the “butt scan” was superfluous eye candy. Not that I’m complaining.
After being told to look for sexual harassment or innuendo and watching the video three times, I still have no idea what you re talking about. Nor can I imagine how facial expressions or body language or expressed comments would have been different if the participants were all of the same gender.
