Is this app on the up-and-up?

I downloaded a free trial version of an app called “DVR Access,” which purportedly allows one to watch on one’s iPhone shows that have been recorded on one’s TiVo. Sounds like a cool idea, so I thought maybe I’d check it out.

Upon starting the app, I was first prompted to enter my “media access key.” I’ve located this number, but TiVo’s website warns against providing it to a third party. Would it be possible for someone to use this code for nefarious purposes? Has anyone here used this (or similar) app, and does it work as advertised?

I can’t say if it can be used for nefarious purposes (probably) or if the app is legit. However, without the Media Access Key no third-party application should be able to play TiVo content (at least in theory). So I would expect an app that claims to do so to access for the MAK.
