Is this creepy? (A TV tower in Prague)

Yeah - it’s creepy. We live part time in Prague and take al visitors there. Most agree it is bizarre and creepy.

I saw the first photo and thought, “yeah, it does look a bit unbalanced and otherworldly, I guess, but not creepy…”

Then I scrolled down and noticed the figures crawling on it and thought, “OK, that’s quirky and I can’t decide if it’s comical, ugly, or just plain weird, but it’s not creepy…”

Then I reached the bottom picture and… AAAAAH! Kill it! KILL IT!

Yes, it’s creepy. The only way it could be more creepy would be if the figures were animated and occasionally sucked someone’s face off.

Ugly.
Not creepy.

Next year the competition will have their Martian tripod up. The aircraft lights will be scanning lights that hit the babies.

Yep. First picture I didn’t much like it. Saw the babies and mildly liked it. Got to the last picture and said, “JESUS!”

I like it.

Daniel

Creepy- especially when you get to the last image.

Creepy- yet… compelling!

Weird, but cool. I don’t get why the babies at all. Until that last pic. Then creepy!

But interestingly so.

Yeah, that last picture is gonna be nightmare fuel for a while to come.

Note to self: Find out where LHofD lives and NEVER move there.

Showed my husband… his reply? What are the babies for? Birdhouses?

Snerk

Look what it has wrought on my former campus:

Ick.

The babies were a cute touch, but the facelessness is CREEPY.

In any case, it’s by definition creepy, since the babies are creeping up the tower.

Maybe he has a fascination with the male form. The tower is a phallic symbol and the alien creatures look like they have uncircumcised penises for heads. Given the Richard Cranium motif I’m thinking it’s an ode to politicians.

The only thing missing from this picture is a Boohbah architectural guide.

It’s not creepy.

It’s horrifying. Why would anyone build this?

“uncircumcised penises” huh? I was thinking they looked like USB ports.

There is such a fine line between clever and stupid.

I agree with Mangetout, almost word for word. Tower’s cool, babies are quirky but kind of neat…last picture–AAUGH! Step on it before it breeds, or sucks out my soul!

That kid’s face looks like the unholy union between an anus and a USB port. (Try not to think too hard about that, mmmkay?)

Up on the viewing platform there are a series of photos of other (mostly Soviet-built) TV towers. Seems every good Soviet city had one. I’ve been to the one in Tashkent, and used to live just down the hill from the one in Tbilisi (which was always floodlit when we had no electricity).

Photos up there include Tashkent, Moscow, Toronto, Kiev? can’t remember them all.

There are about to (maybe it happened already?) replace the top antenna and require a big Russian helicopter to do it. The whole area will be closed for half a day while they move things.

Babies in general are ugly. Therefore, the tower is ugly & creepy.

Totally awesome! Man, I’d love to visit Prague someday and now I’ve got to read more about this architect.

< goes off to add a mention of him in my blog >

This was my exact reaction. UGH! Ugly!
