Is this creepy? (A TV tower in Prague)

I was thinking of Kenny from South Park.

The peeing statue/fountain is awesome…someone needs to rework that into a bar accessory.

The tower is ugly, but I kinda like it (from a distance). Did the sculptor intend for birds to nest in the little faces?

Even without the crawling creatures, it’s creepy – it looks like something that came to invade Earth. When you add the crawlers, it’s totally creepy.

I just saw this thread. I think the babies are neat and creepy. I like them.

As for the tower itself, I liked it from the first - it reminded me of the old style superstructure from US BBs, and so I had a lovely nostalgic feeling looking at it.

So if I were there, I could text message it my name, and one of the pissers would write my name in pee in the pool?!?

I can see some doof trying to propose to his girlfriend this way. Would be fun to watch her trying to figure out the message.

Yes, but hardly original.

Dude, you can send a text messages to those two guys and they’ll pee-write your text in the fountain! How cool is that? Can the little guy do that? I think not! :stuck_out_tongue:

I used to live right under that tower. At night, we’d sit on our tiny little balcony and look up, up, up in the sky at that huge tower and those insane babies. They’re still there and each time I see them, about once a year, I remember those days with fondness. So I vote for cool, not creepy. Also, the fact that the Prague 3 administration consented to this far-out peace of art on a local landmark fills me with admiration for their courageous attitude towards the arts. As does some of the other work he’s done, such as the parody on Václav’s statue on Wenceslas Square, in which the horse is hanging by his legs from the ceiling of a nearby passage way called Lucerna (where the Civic Forum met during the Velvet Revolution), with Václav sitting astride the horse’s belly.

I really liked them until I saw the “face”. I still like them from a distance, although that tower is completely out of place in its surroundings. Maybe he was trying to give the massive tower a human scale? (sorry).

The horse statue

For those of you inclined it’s worth the time to look it up in Google Earth. I didn’t have the address so I went to Prague, clicked on 3D building view and angled it to a horizontal view. Due to it’s height it sticks out. The pictures linked to Geographic Web show the tower to be much more than I originally thought. It’s a chameleon of art in that it reflects the day. If it’s sunny out it has a warmth to it with it’s smoothed edges. If it’s a dreary day it looks industrial. It also changes dramatically at night due to the variety of lighting techniques. Alas, Street View was not available.

If someone told me as a kid I would own a computer that could view any spot on earth with linkable images I would have laughed. During the 70’s the Russians spent a fortune on a manned spy satellite that could take pictures of Earth like a reverse Hubble telescope. Times sure have changed.

I find myself a little embarrassed that I was annoyed because Prague hadn’t been photo-mapped yet with Street View.

Don’t get your hopes up: it might not be. The EU is concerned that the street view feature might violate privacy laws. (I’m not sure if this is the best source, it’s just the first English one that came up when I googled.)

Then they’d have to go back and deal with the individual pictures already submitted. I would think there are already laws dealing with public images. But I can understand people not wanting their house on Google. If I’d known they were going to photograph my house I would painted it before some other items on my to-do list.
