Is this laptop acceptable? (again!)

Amazingly, two years ago, I sought out help here about a laptop computer. Great advice given, but ultimately, I returned the laptop I bought due to it having countless issues.

I have hung on to my Toshiba Satellite computer manufactured in 2012 for another two+ years, somewhat burned from my bad experience last time. Well, the time has come for me to try again.

My “wants”:

-17 inch screen

  • SSD (all the rage and very fast)
  • 16 gb memory
  • decent speed
  • be able to play some games, but not everything(like, I don’t need a gaming laptop)

Anyway, here is what I found, though I have hardly scavenged around for the best of the best:

Dell Inspiron

Good bad? What did I miss? Is $829 too much for that machine?

That sounds like a lot of money. I would look around for something in the $400 to $500 range, and try for an i7 processor, not an i5. I got my current laptop from Microcenter. There happens to be a brick and mortar one near me, but they serve the whole country by mail order. I do approve of the Toshiba Satellite; I’ve owned several and never had any issues.

It has a WVA screen, not IPS, and onboard graphics only. This one at $899 has IPS screen and GTX 1660 (if you are willing to wait for the rebate).

Thank you!

That’s a good find and a great deal. I second this recommendation.

Ouch, the deal expired. Do they come back often?

Newegg has a the same deal but it is out of stock as well.

They Do have one with a 256GB SSD for 800 after rebate, but that is a damn small drive these days.

I am ready to buy, but missed the deal.

  1. Does anyone know where the top deal for the 512GB 16GB RAM one is now? I’d love to get a deal like that, even within $50 of it.

  2. If I buy the second deal in your quote, can I add the memory to that machine pretty easily?
