Is This ("Narc-weed") a real substance?

I was watching a TV show the other night and one of the characters was an ex-narcotics officer turned police detective. While talking to several different people, he gained their confidence by smoking weed with them.
When he got into his partner’s car and she responded to the smell of weed on him, he responded with (paraphrased,) “Relax, it’s narc weed (or narco weed.) Looks like pot, smells like pot, tastes like pot. But, it ain’t pot.”
Is this a real substance that police might have access to? Googling eventually led me to sites about low THC Marijuana, but nothing about any use by police.

Thanks in advance - DESK

The police I’ve known who worked undercover used the same drugs as the people they were with.

I’ve never heard of it, but mugwort smells pretty close. If you had it cut and sifted or ground, or already rolled into joints, you might be able to fool people with it (it doesn’t make buds like weed, so a baggie of it doesn’t look like weed). There are many varieties of weed, and the smell can vary considerably.

I’m giggling as I read this…

When I was in college, back in the 70’s, we talked about “narc-weed” ( I think we called it hemptea ) a lot. We talked about smoking it and we told tales of procuring it from a health food store downtown. We were full of hemptea tips and tricks.

So ALL the faculty and other personnel at our college knew all about hemptea. We used hemptea for pot-smoking scenes in our workshop theatre productions and performance art pieces. The smell of hemptea wafted through the halls of the rehearsal studio center most evening, spreading almost as far and wide as the hemptea meme itself.

And we got through 4 years of college without a single college faculty member or employee discovering that there was no such thing as hemptea.

Ms Hedonia,

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Um wouldn’t OSHA object to shooting meth or heroin IV? At the very least your cover as a heroin junkie will be blown when you OD right?

The varieties of Cannabis sativa legally grown for the production of fibres (hemp) and seeds are very low in THC

Honey, it was the 70s. It’s almost a given they were toasted higher than you guys :).

Yeah, I don’t know the crack, cocaine, heroin subcultures but I have no idea how a cop would go about smoking fake weed to begin with. “Nah, it’s OK mate I’m good, pass that shit to John over there, I got my own joint. No, you can’t have any.” ? Not suspicious at all ! :stuck_out_tongue:

in some states, not all but some, cops are allowed to smoke weed or do coke or fuck whores or whatever is necessary to maintain cover when making arrests of dope dealers or whores or whatever

Hmmm, and I suppose that they are magically immune to the effect of said drugs, with no doubt whatsoever about their reliability as witnesses or their ability to make judgements.

It’s the same magic that allows them to safely use dashboard computers and radios while pulling us over for using a cell phone!

Putting a bit of sage mixed in with any benign smoking herb smells just like weed.

Every now and then someone will put sage in their wood stove or outdoor grill. We’ll get calls from people complaining about how there must be a huge pot party somewhere in the neighborhood.
