Cite?
Nelson Mandela has referred to him as: “An inspiration for every human being who loves freedom”. But you probably don’t like Mandela much either. I am not going to cite Che’s love of freedom. It is clear in his writings and you might learn something looking it up yourself. We both know you won’t.
Moto: I noticed that line was used in the Motorcycle Diaries, interestingly enough I have not seen it, one of the cites on wiki mentions it…
In all fairness it is possible to be ass fucked and never see the persons face.
and yes I’m uncomfortable know that.
Yeah, well, but truth usually uses lube.
Then why do *they * say “The truth hurts”?
 I’ve been lied to!
Well, if we’re tallying up the deaths of innocents, we might want to remember that John McCain was part of a bombing campaign that resulted in 72,000 civilian casualties.
But hey, an Obama supporter put up a Che poster.
Just for the record, Obama doesn’t support gay marriage. He supports same-sex civil unions with equal benefits under the law. Link
What’s the difference? His support of the separation of church and state. Just as he maintains that the church not dictate policy, neither can government policy dictate the tenants of any religious belief system. And I for one think that’s a pretty wise balance between two very vocal extremes on the matter.
I should add that he does not approve of any Constitutional Ammendment banning gay marriage however.
You know who else claimed to love freedom? Lots of various people from various political movements, that’s who.
The easiest thing in the world is to claim to love freedom. Heck, I can do it right now.
“I love freedom!”
See how easy that was? Except if I go around establishing totalitarian police states that shows that I like freedom for me, but I’m not so hot on other people having freedom.
Tell you what. My simple rule is that if someone who works for the establishment of a totalitarian dictatorship tells me they love freedom, I tend not to believe them. You obviously think otherwise.
You really need to read more. What would you call a guy who died trying to put an end to mostly CIA backed totalitarian murderous regimes? What ever Cuba may or may not have become it was certainly not designed by Che. When the corrupt Bautista regime was defeated and Che could have taken a position of power and comfort and wealth, Che moved on to other places where people were being exploited by other ruthless dictators and juntas and fought and killed them. He never, not once, stopped to establish any dictatorships, totalitarian or otherwise. He may have been naive and idealistic but unlike you he meant what he said and gave his life in the fight against tyrany.
No. Che WAS part of the team that created Cuba’s dicatorship. He left Cuba and never returned because Castro came to consider him a threat and it wasn’t safe to remain in Cuba.
He gave his life in the fight to establish tyranny, like so many “idealists” before him.
So, “the Butcher of La Cabana” was just one of those friendly nicknames, then? And he set up Guanahacabibes as a summer camp? You realize he was in the Cuban government for five years, and only left because he had fallen out of favor with Castro, not because he had any sort of moral objection to what the Communist regime was doing, right?
My friends and I made a shirt with Che on it that had a backdrop of the hammer and sickle, and instead of hte dove on his cap it was Mickey Mouse. It said, “Vive le Revissionisme”, We figured it was too obtuse, and I didn’t want to sell anything with his image ultimately so we didn’t do anything with the shirts.

Too bad, because somebody else had a similar idea, and I think it’s the best New Yorker cartoon I’ve ever seen.

Is Shaquille O’Neal one of those?
You’ll have to forgive him - it’s that whole “ignorant of history” thing.

And for the record - I don’t think you need to see the world in black and white terms to determine that there was a fundamental difference between Che and Castro and, say, Washington and Jefferson. And positing that there was some moral equivalence there is frankly ignorant.
Moto, you calling me ignorant is like a piece of shit calling someone stinky. Do you even know who was killed at La Cabana? There are a million and one right wing and expat revisionist blogs proclaiming the evils of Che, but the fact is, while I don’t idolize the guy and I find fault with a lot of what he did I recognize that he did a lot of good for a lot of people.
If this video was Obama’s death scream, today he seemed to be saying “I’m not dead… I feel happy.”
Please elaborate on both points - I’d love to hear more.
