Paul had a half an hour on Fox Sunday Morning. That is not being ignored. He said he wants to return to the America of 1900. That is stupid .
He wanted to return to the great and wonderful days of Galveston in 1900. He specifically mentioned both.
We don’t need FEMA.
We don’t need FEMA at all.
Another poll result . . . .
Just for clarification, and to also try to bring the OP back into play, I don’t watch TV at all. No sports, cartoons, sitcoms, reality shows, or the news. My kids watch the Disney Channel and Cartoon Network from time to time so I am somewhat exposed to it, but I honestly haven’t sat down to watch TV for several years. Any news or video that I watch comes via the web. And, I’m rather particular about where I go to get the news (actually, the SDMB keeps me fairly up to date on most things). So, for me, it looks odd when people who watch televised debates, and listen/watch the news stations say that Paul (or any other candidate for that matter) has no chance or that so-and-so definitely won a debate.
From my perspective, many news articles seem to have their focus on one or two candidates and a small set of points, then the public comments seem to fill up rather quickly about Paul. So, for what it’s worth, he seems to get very decent online publicity from his supporters.
From what I have read, it seems like two or three candidates get the lion’s share of airtime, and the ‘fringe’ candidates get scraps of time, and are usually frustrated by the time the debate moderators get to them.
Online polls with a self-selected sample are pretty meaningless, especially when Ron Paul is involved. Ron Paul will win pretty much any high-profile online poll.
I could not find exact Fox News clip but this one on CNN touches on FEMA and 1900. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9L0xbMMcZo
Assuming the Fox News clip was in similar vein and you conclude: “he wants to return to the America of 1900” all I have to say is I want what you’re on.
Ron makes very convincing argument especially when you consider FEMA was put together in 1979. However, what I realize slowly is that people are so ignorant of this man is b/c when he says “Government” he thinks Federal Government in most cases. However, people conclude that he wants to do away with ANY government. No! All he wants is for States to take care of it and not to have to comply with bureaucracy that comes with Federal Government.
Random thought… I may be totally off base here but seems to me that when States insist on less Federal intrusion (which is logical, considering the size of US) people have a knee jerk reaction based on events surrounding States dealing with racism toward African Americans and how if it was not for a decisive action from Federal authorities there would never be proper application of civil rights across US, especially Southern States. So it seems that the solution is always to have Federal entity take care of it even though there is no rational basis for it. Tell me I’m crazy now…
