Is this the fastest turn around for a movie remake?

I see they are remaking Texas Chainsaw Massacre yet again. If i remember correctly this movie was remade once already and that was like 5 years ago or something? How did this project get greenlighted? The last one had Matthew McConoghy (sp) and flopped on its ass, what makes anyone think another one with a bunch of no namers in it will do any better?

Has there ever been a movie that was remade faster than this one is going to be?

BTW, half the reason TCM was so scary was because of the low grade shooting and the filthy look of it. No new one will be able to compare.

Depends on your definition, but Dangerous Liaisons was released in 1988 and Valmont – based on the same novel – came out in 1989.

And when are they going to remake Attack of the Killer Tomatos

Isn’t every Ashley Judd a remake of the one prior?

You’re thinking of Texas Chainsaw Massacre:The Next Generation with Matthew McConoghey and Renee Zelweiger (not sure about either of those spellings.) It’s a sequel and not a “remake.”

And then Cruel Intentions in 1999.

2001’s Vanilla Sky, IIRC, was a remake of a pretty recent Spanish-language film, 1997’s Abre los Ojos.

Little Indian, Big City. 1994 was remade as Jungle 2 Jungle in 1997

Don’t forget:
Insomnia (2002)
Insomnia (1997)

Trucks by Steve King - weren’t there 2 versions in rapid succession?

There seems to be a whole subgenre of European films swiftly (and usually badly) remade as Hollywood flicks:

Père Noël est une ordure, French, 1982, remade as Mixed Nuts, 1994

Hold-up, French, 1985, remade as Quick Change, 1990

Wings of Desire, German, 1987, remade as City of Angels, 1998

Spoorloos, Netherlands, 1988, remade by the same director as The Vanishing, 1993

La Totale, French, 1991 remade as True Lies, 1994

Just a few off the top of my pointy head. There are others.

Not sequels, but Prefontaine was released in1997 and Without Limits was released in1998 - they were actually in production at the same time IIRC. They are biopics on the same man - the Olympic distance runner Steve Prefontaine.

As per the Prefontaine movies, the Disney one received the approval of the Pre family, friends, etc. and was decidedly less “hard-core” (probably not the right word) than the Warner Bro’s version. IMHO, the WB version was better (and included a short role by the Pink Ranger)

How about Evil Dead 1 and 2? Essentially the same story, with the former endeavoring to be horrific and the latter adding humorous elements. I’m not sure of the years and my lazy streak prevents me from going to IMDB, but I know that both of these came out pretty close to each other.

From the let’s remake a good movie that didn’t fare too well and make it into a hit franchise has been developed department:

Red Dragon 2002
Manhunter 1986

Still not sure if you are looking for remakes or sequels but “Back To The Future 2” and “3” were made at the same time so they were probably both finished about the same time. I think they did the same think on the “Star Wars Attack of The Clone” movie.

The Disney version of Three Men And A Baby was released while the original (French) 3 Men And A Baby was still in release in Europe.

Ring the bell! I think we have a winner.

Nope, I’m pretty sure Lucas didn’t do that… i remember he hadn’t cast Attack of the Clones until after Ep 1 was in theaters for a bit. You’re probably thinking of a better movie: the LOTR trilogy. And the two new Matrix sequels…
