This year we have two #1 seeds, a #2 seed and a #4 seed – total seeding of eight. Is this the lowest it’s been (or perhaps since it expanded to 64 teams perhaps)? It seems in the past there’s always been a Cinderella story, but this year, all the #1 seeds were even alive in the Elite Eight. Anyone know or can think of a lower combined seeding for the Final Four?
The lowest combined seeding for a Final Four was in 1993. In that year, there were three #1 seeds (UNC, Michigan and Kentucky) and a #2 seed (Kansas). As there has never been an occasion with all #1 seeds in the Final Four, this would be the lowest set.
BTW, Maryland is a 3 seed.
