Is this the third or fourth battle for Fallujah?

Just saw this news article.

Ok, I can remember a Battle for Fallujah. The city was in open rebellion against the American occupiers, and would attack anyone trying to patrol it. Then, there is the infamous hanging of the burnt bodies of the blackwater contractors from a bridge.

The U.S. military surrounded the city. From what I read, this was a joint operation with both Army and Marines. They advanced in step with each other, searching every structure for insurgents. Many of the buildings were trapped or had insurgents waiting in ambush, and despite every effort, wikipedia says 27-28 men died.

In the crossfire, it also says about twice as many civilians as insurgents died.

Then, there was a second battle for Fallujah. After the first battle where 27-28 men gave their lives, somehow central command gave control of the city to corrupt or incompetent Iraqis who let the insurgents turn the city into a heavily fortified deathtrap. Almost 100 men were killed this time around.

So. You really can’t blame the Iraqi military for shelling the place. It kind of sounds like it would be a reasonable thing to just level it instead of sending troops in. The Iraqis are not as skilled a fighters as 2005 era U.S. marines and Army.

Errr, no. Levelling an entire fucking city wouldn’t be “reasonable,” and if the Iraqi army did so, it would be as unwise as it would be immoral.

Let’s see, 27-28 people died taking the city the first time around, ~100 died the second time around, so for the third time, let’s just execute326,471 people and destroy all their property instead.

That is certainly a reasonable and proportionate response.

Wait til you hear the plan to turn Detroit around!

Wrong. Your own source shows deaths of 800 or more in the “First Battle of Fallujah”.

Wrong again. Deaths exceeded 2100 in the “Second Battle of Fallujah”.

Obviously you meant “American soldiers” instead of “men.” Were you worried about carpal tunnel syndrome from the extra typing?

I am an American but I am deeply troubled when only American casualties are considered important, especially when “men” is used in a sense to exclude non-American humans.

Among the Seven Distinct Lies for Why We Launched the War against Gog and Magog is “to help the Iraqi people.” With their lives not considered to qualify as human, I guess we can scratch that lie off, along with the other six, as refuted.
