Is tipping offensive in non-tipping cultures?

“Largely”. There’s no tipping anywhere except at restaurants, and that’s at discretion, and usually involves MUCH smaller amounts than in the USA (where it’s what - 18% now?). Typically round up to the next 50/100 rupee mark or 5 % at swanky joints. There’s certainly no tipping taxi drivers, hair dressers or anyone else in the service industry. Bellhops at five star hotels hang around expecting a tip, but that’s probably because they interact with so many Americans. I’ll be damned if I tip for wheeling my bag into across an air conditioned lobby into an elevator and then to my room.
