In other words: “The Truth?! You can’t handle the truth!” moment.
I felt Hillary did a pretty good job baiting him in the last debate.
And if so, what form will Trump’s code red take? Alicia Machado? Bill’s affairs? Muslim’s?
I’m thinking, if he hasn’t gained any traction by the third debate, he’s going to have a melt down in some form. (In front of 80 million viewers!)
If he continues to “prepare” like he has done in the past, I think a melt-down of some kind is guaranteed.
And I honestly don’t think he can prepare any better. He has a limited grasp of the facts, and has shown no interest in learning. He cannot take a critique, so he’ll just keep on doing the same things. Also, he simply cannot, CANNOT resist being baited, and striking out at sympathetic members of the public.
I really think that there was some form of self-medication going on before the first debate, and if The Donald is starting down that path of relying on stimulants (legal or otherwise) to keep him going for the last few weeks, we’re going to see some EPIC behavior from him.
And there are significant demands on his time, with his Foundation needing 15 days to prepare and audit years of financials, the Cuba thing and its legal repercussions, the desire to find out who released the taxes, more. All of these major, all of these things a traditional Presidential candidate does not have to deal with.
Next debate is in, what, 7 days? tick-tock, tick-tock…
The next debate is town hall format. Trump will probably go into it feeling more at home, as he’s more comfortable having an engaged audience to play off. But the potential downside is at least as big, especially if he goes ahead with his threats to raise the specter of Bill Clinton’s sex life. I predict several stunned silences in which one can hear a pin drop.
Or the ever-so-slight possibility of boos, or at least some sort negative reaction. Which could cause the code red we’ve all been preparing ourselves for-- Trump lashing out at average voters.
Given that this is a town hall format, I think there is a 50% chance he’ll do kind of ok, and a 50% chance he’ll insult a participant if they ask a question he doesn’t like.
The depressing part is that Trump’s supporters are calling him a “genius” regarding his tax situation, so I’m not sure if any other meltdown would do much good.
Even if he holds it together during the debate itself, I expect his poor impulse control to manifest afterwards (e.g. by launching a Twitter tirade against one of the citizen questioners in the next town-hall-style debate).
Trump’s strong point is large, impersonal audiences that he doesn’t need to engage directly. Hillary’s strong point is dealing one-on-one with members of small groups. Advantage HRC.
Who, besides his lunatic butt-boys Christie and Giuliani, who have junked whatever political credibility remaining to them over the past couple on months, is calling Trump a “genius” ?
I don’t hear that word coming out of his less-crazed establishment Repub supporters, and not from the troglodytes of the rank-and-file.
