Standing behind a podium isn’t remotely as taxing as getting up, moving around, going back, sitting down, getting up, moving around. Just staying in one place, even if you’re standing, is far easier.
perhaps mr trump will wander about the stage like sen. mccain did.
Remember, this was when Bush the elder took a quick glance at his wristwatch during the town hall and was eviscerated for it. A podium helps constrain ones body language. A chair or stool means that you have to have much greater self-control to not appear fidgety, impatient, bored, or inattentive.
Commensurate? (And: I think you’re right. I sure hope so.)
I thought he would cope OK and stay calm during debate #1. I was obviously wrong. He was a maniac.
Will they know the questions in advance for this next debate? If so, he might be OK. If not, he’ll totally lose it.
ISTR that GHWB checked his wristwatch several times during that 1992 debate. And, yeah, it really did him in.
Lawyers and staff can only do so much - they still need directions and orders. Are they going to dissolve the Foundation and return the $? Fight the NY AG? Provide the audited records? Offer a partial reimbursement? How does Cuba fit into all this? The rape case?
Staff, kids, and attorneys don’t get this say… Donald Trump does. They follow his lead, and he has to make these decisions… while running a campaign, while dealing with the GOP, while doing rallies, while trying to find out who the tax whistle-blower is, all to get a high-stress, low-paying job he doesn’t at all understand.
Oh! And he has to debate prep too! Tick-tock, tick-tock…
They are not given the questions in advance, but they should be able to make good guesses about them. But unlike in the first debate where they should be able to figure out 99-100% of the questions in advance, there is more chance for a surprise question when it’s asked by a regular joe in the town hall format.
