I am sure that it will end with Johah as POTUS. He’ll be some sort of weird compromise VEEP and the POTUS will drop dead right after the inauguration.
He’s a regular no-hairy fake-man!
I just started watching the series last night. I can’t wait to see things develop to where that could even be a possibility.
I’ve never seen The League, but I thought the start of season 3 of Veep was funny, and promising.
Laughed out loud at Dan and Jonah’s inability to be in the same room for more than five seconds without being terrible to each other. That and the brief interview laden with code words.
I think Veep has the chance to be more topical than ever now that person similar in character to Selena Meyer is the actual president. Will be interested to see what they do with that opportunity.
I still want Dan & Jonah to end up in bed together, not matter how little sense it makes plot wise. It would’ve already happened several seasons ago if one of their character’s were female. Selina really seemed to be channeling Hillary this episode; not a lot of subtly there with her being accused of enabling her “sexual predator” husband.
On the other hand, it was obviously a mutual thing. The artist was also deeply into the husband. The media spin that it wasn’t her (the artist’s) fault was a bit subversive and quite funny.
Even when it comes to her childhood memories Selina can’t catch a break. I especially liked how Daddy’s secretary went “to the spa”.
Well, at least Selina’s finally getting credit for Tibet (aka the one positive major accomplishment she blundered into). And it’s been renewed for a 7th season so maybe we’ll get to see her try & take back the White House after all.
I’m not clear what the point of this season is. Seems like it’s just a way to get as raunchy as possible in a pointless storyline. That’s fine with me, there’s still plenty of yuks. Seems like they wanted to spin off JON*H into his own show until yesterday’s episode. They could do a Stooges reboot using Simons, Hale, and Walsh.
My girlfriend skipped the first few seasons of Veep; she started binging season 1 today. God, the show used to be So. Much. Funnier. And Smarter.
It’s not just the lack of a strong storyline; there were so damn many jokes back in the day! There were scenes where one character is dropping a verbal joke while another is doing purely physical comedy in another part of the frame. So many jokes the viewer is pretty much guaranteed to miss some – and STILL find the show hilarious.
Maybe I need to revisit this latest season, but I’m pretty sure it’s dumbed down considerably.
Amusing that some think that Selina is a stand-in for Hillary, others that she is a stand-in for Donald. Perhaps politicians are just politicians, and that is part of the joke.
On the comparison to The League:
Seinfeld and later Curb Your Enthusiasm picked up a three-man writing and producing team originally from the Harvard Lampoon, Jeff Schaffer, David Mandel and Alec Berg. All three are now in various HBO projects.
Schaffer created and ran The League and will be back in a lead role for the new season of Curb.
Berg did not create, but now is running Silicon Valley.
Mandel did not create, but now is running Veep.
Perhaps not that surprising if folks see a tonal similarity among some of the shows.
The thing that really bums me out about this (as a fan of both Silicon Valley & Veep), is that the well publicized tenet of Seinfeld was that the characters must never learn or grow. Seems like both of these shows are really starting to embrace that (or maybe they always did) and it’s wearing thin. There’s never any real consequences for anything.
Maybe I’m setting my expectations too high since these are light, half hour comedies and not serial dramas, but I’d like to see at least some hard decisions or consequences.
Well Selina’s going to run in 2020 after all, and she got the whole gang together (minus Mike, wh o she fired) now that they’ve all realized she’s the best they can do. And I’m guessing Jonah ends up her VP candidate (assuming he can make it all the way past Election w/o being assinated by his Secret Service detail). Also Dant & Amy are having a baby; talk about dark comedy.

Interesting ending to the season. Not what is used to be. But what is?
I think they’ll have Jonah be a Trump-like candidate. Completely offensive and incapable of doing anything right. Therefore a shoo-in.
Before 2016, that would have struck me as too contrived for TV.
I do love that Leon is now the Press Secretary. That was fun.
Jonah for President campaign is going to be fantastic!
