During the first season of Veronica Mars, the cast did a promotional tour of the country. One of the stops was at a shopping mall down the street from us, so we packed up the kids and went (we were all huge fans). All of the main cast, every one of them, was even better-looking in person than onscreen, if that’s even possible. And no heavy makeup or anything. They were all very pleasant, despite getting worn out. We still have the autographed cast photos.
All right, on the strength of all the recommendations I’ve persevered. The first couple of eps didn’t really stand out to me, although i did like that they weren’t completely predictable. Just watched ep5 (about the stolen car) and it seems to pick up here, taking me by surprise about some turns. I’m definitely getting into the groove with the main cast, I like how they behave like actual people.
I have one small problem, though: I can’t tell all those boys apart. Duncan, Logan, Troy all look nearly the same to me.
Incidentally I also picked up Supernatural again, after some mediocre episodes (Skin, Bugs) there were finally some more exciting stories (Home, Asylum). The lighting is very dark though, must be those Canadian winters.
I will say while I really enjoyed Veronica Mars; Season-4 just didn’t work for me at all. It was a series re-boot some 12 years after the last episode of Season-3. I think it is 20-years later in show time (I am not sure). It simply didn’t have the spark the first three seasons had.
I’m in the middle of season 2. The “all those boys” grows by three or so additional ones. So, if season 1 bothers you, Season 2 will be worse.
Probably repeating myself, but I really liked Season 4 of Veronica Mars.
I think we can all agree that Season 3 was pretty bad, though
But boy did I love the first two seasons. This thread may have prompted a re-watch!
Season 3 is bad? I’m in the middle of season 2 - first time watcher. Just curious what’s coming up.
It’s mildly controversial and generally considered the weakest of the three original seasons. But some people still really liked it. It shifts from high school to college which slightly altered the tone and character beats. More significantly it is my understanding the network brass meddled in the structure. They wanted to attract more casual eyes and thought that entire season story arcs were detrimental to that. So they insisted that the season be changed to several mini-arcs so new viewers could jump in mid-season and not be as confused.
I am not one of them, to the point where I’m pretty sure I never even finished it.
I struggled a bit as I noted above. Made it through the first mini-arc, then episodes sat unwatched for a fair bit. I’m pretty sure I plowed through them eventually, but all of my memories of the specific plots of that season have washed away like tears in the rain
.
Though to be fair while I remember the main mysteries and their outcomes from the first two, I don’t remember a lot else about them. Shockingly it’s been twenty+ years!
I wanted to like it, but didn’t get past the first few episodes. Maybe I have to be in the right mood, or it was too close to finishing The Good Place. I think it’s sometimes difficult to see an actor in a different role.
I’ll probably try it again at some point.
FYI Veronica Mars is now airing on Start TV which for me is on an OTA sub-channel (14.3)
Weeknights 9PM Central. June 1 episode is season 1 episode 11

Well, allow me to be one of the first dissenting opinions then… I found it hard to get into.
I did try to stick with it for a little bit, I think I watched the first five or six episodes but then I stopped after that. I was just finding it hard to relate or care about any of the characters because most of them are high schoolers and I could not relate very well to high schoolers anymore. If you have ever seen shows and enjoy them like Riverdale or Smallville or 13 Reasons Why… Other shows that have a predominantly High School cast of characters…You might like Veronica Mars. In fact I would say it’s a lot like 13 Reasons Why, another show that I only watched about four or five episodes of before giving up on because I just could not get into it.
This doesn’t mean it’s a bad show, I’m sure it’s very good for those who like it, but I just couldn’t bring myself to care about any of the characters… And this was after my forced supernatural watching.
I spent time watching the first five seasons of supernatural, and all throughout it I kept on telling my brother, who was a huge fan of the show, that I wasn’t enjoying it and I didn’t care about it and it wasn’t hooking me…but he kept on insisting it would get better, oh just stick with it a little bit longer, it gets better. Oh it’ll hook you soon, just keep watching. So I would go season after season after season and still I would find it quite boring and just not all that into it.
Finally I watched the season 5 finale and it’s like, I still don’t care about this show, how long are you going to let me go on before you admit to yourself “okay, maybe he’s just not going to ever like the show”? But no, my brother kept insisting that it’s going to get good any minute now.
No more. After five seasons I just gave up and I told them, sorry, I’m not putting up with it anymore.
Veronica Mars was similar to that and it came after. There was a time I almost told myself I should at least watch one season, but then I remember the supernatural and I’m like “life is too short to waste your time on shows you already know you’re never going to get into”.
To me, shows that I like and get into usually hook me within the first one or two episodes. Some might take a little bit longer but, not usually.
Ouch! I hate those other shows, but Veronica Mars was amazing.
You didn’t even want to find out who killed Lilly?
