Is what's happening in the Mideast a direct result of the Bush/Gore thing?

By which I mean, do you think the various Mideast leaders are taking advantage of what they may perceive as a lack of attention on the part of the world’s self-appointed policeman, to get in a few good punches while Uncle Sam is busy doing paperwork in the front seat of his patrol car?

Or is it just “business as usual” on the Left Bank?

Someone pointed out that it’s not like we don’t have a president–we do have one, at least until January 20. But I was wondering if the rest of the world realizes that.

I think it’s anger and resentment, encouraged by some religious leaders perhaps, over not having a Palestinian state as per the agreement with Israel.
Not that I agree, mind you. Violence and killing never do anything except turn people against you.

I kinda doubt the Israelis and Palestinians need any additional reason to go after each other. :frowning:

On the USS Cole attack, I’m not sure how cooperative the Yemenis wanted to be in the first place, so I’m not confident that the election changed anything there either.

One of the more “perceptive” explanations I have come across to explain the everlasting Mideast situation goes as follows:

142 Arabs fight with 154 jews over 69 oil wells for 5 days. Question: Who wins?

To get the answer, get your calculator.
Now multiply the number 14215469 by 5. When you see the result, turn around your calculator by 180 degrees and look at the screen to get the answer. It says a lot.
