Didn’t take long. They hacked the military computers just a few months ago. This could get really personal and dangerously out of control quick. If any of these men or their families are murdered. The blacklash will make 9/11 look like a cake walk. The anger and fury across this country will demand action.
My dad served in Viet Nam. Never occurred to any of us that we might be in danger living off base. I walked to elementary school many mornings. That level of personal security and safety is something we expect from our government. We can’t tolerate foreign terrorists coming after our serving men and women’s families at home.
I’m not sure what the solution is. Base Housing was in short supply when my dad served. They can’t just move these 100 families onto bases. Housing would have to be built. Extra schools on base would need to be built and staffed There’s no telling how many names and addresses ISIS has. We can’t shift all military personnel and their families to base housing.
I’m grateful the NY News did not publish the names and addresses. But, radical elements can find them on these terrorist sites. No way am I googling that. I don’t want my IP associated with those sites. I’m sure their net traffic is being tracked. Or it should be.
The amazing thing is that there are many 10 of thousands of voting age citizens who think this country deserves this and those who kill the women & kids are just getting justice.
Not many of these people are currently associated with the military I would think.
I may be wrong but the screed all over the net says to me that their are a whole lot of US citizens are actively want & trying tio help
I think you’re forgetting who we have in the White House (or as AClockworkMelon said, lol).
I would expect carefully couched wording (so as not to be offensive to Islam/Muslims in general) in ostensibly strong condemnation of the deaths, a few targeted military strikes for show, and little else.
Hillary quite naturally will put on a show of how tough she would be were she in office, but her husband always put possible political fallout ahead of any military action and therefore rarely undertook any, and I wouldn’t expect his wife to be much different.
It would be a field day for Republican contenders to the White House because most of the country’s populace knows a Republican president wouldn’t put up with that shit and would come down on 'em hard.
But that may be what ISIS has in mind anyway, since their goal apparently is to bring about a huge conflict resulting in the end of times. What they don’t seem to realize is that it would only be the end of them.
We’re in the middle of a significant drawdown. Base housing many places has been semi-privatized (contract to a management company that gets paid by troops out of their housing allowance.) At some bases due to lower demand they allow retirees and civilian federal employees to move in to keep things closer to full. It wouldn’t be all that hard to give them priority on the first housing available if something isn’t open now.
It’s also coming up on summer PCS season for the active duty folks. Most change of station moves happen in the summer months (since it minimizes school issues for the kids.) 33-50% of these troops are likely moving soon. Slide their report dates a little left and the issue goes away for a good chunk of them pretty quickly. That also means housing units opening up on base as others move.
Oh no, ISIS has gone ahead and made a list of members of the military from publicly available information. Usually the identity of members of the military is a really big secret, but now the bad guys will know who to target.
Maybe next they’ll release a list of all the military bases of America, and even put in their exact location. Then the terrorists will know exactly where there is a huge concentration of members of the military. We can’t have that happening.
Do they still require military families to move off base when the spouse gets deployed over seas? We were in base housing at Otis for six years until my dad did his tour in Viet Nam. We had to move off base and my parents bought a house in Falmouth. That kept my mom close enough to drive to work at the base hospital. She was a civilian nurse. When dad came home he was allowed to request a couple base assignments. One he asked for was England Air Base because it was only 25 miles from his parents home in Louisiana.
I always thought that was a bit unfair to make families move. But really the assignment at the old base is over when someone deploys. There’s no telling where they get posted afterward. At least that was how it worked in the late 1960’s.
You say this because when Major Nidal Hasan murdered 13 people and wounded 32 at Fort Hood in 2009 after corresponding with an Al Qaeda propagandist, the country erupted in a way far worse than in 2001?
Do you think a terrorist would have a hard time finding a soldier to murder in the absence of this leak?
Did you not read your own cite? These ISIS mooks are specifically calling on random disaffected persons in the US to take action on their behalf. The whole point is that they recognize they have next to no chance of organizing and carrying out an attack on US soil themselves. This amounts to incitement, nothing more, and any eventual success will be entirely up to whether or not someone actually in the US can figure out how to organize an attack on their own without being detected, with no material help from Mook Central.
No. ISTR there was even the possibility of having a non-military guardian live in on post housing (single deploying Soldier with kids) during deployment if the Soldier jumped through the requisite hoops beforehand.
I imagine it took somebody hundreds of hours combing through Facebook. (I’m not on Facebook and don’t know how its organized). They found 100 families of pilots that had flown Missions in the area that ISIS operates.
Imagine your name and family’s address distributed through the terror network. The pucker factor goes right through the roof. Home is the one safe place military personnel return to after deployment. No matter how bad it gets they look forward to getting home. For that to be threatened in any way… Is just not acceptable.
We just don’t know how many more people like Dzhokhar & Tamerlan Tsarnaev there are inside the US. I would have said none before the Boston Marathon bombing. We know differently now. They’ve caught several trying to catch flights to join ISIS. How many did join and returned home?
Not a chance. Why take the risk? I’d worry about a random whack job, wanna be terrorist. Someone that wants to be infamous. Its unlikely to be anyone directly connected to terror organizations. Its the lone wolf that is so dangerous. They don’t turn up in investigations because they aren’t part of any terror groups.
ISIS needs to be exterminated on the battlefield. Everywhere ISIS fights. In towns, on fields, in the mountains, in every computer hacking center. Death to ISIS.
If you’re willing to take out the millions of civilians that they are living with, then sure. It might be easier to just nuke them, however. To save them from ISIS, we had to destroy them.
Unfortunately, ISIS isn’t willing to just come out in the open and be mowed down.
