What are the Islamic views on homosexuality? Does the Koran directly address the issue? Are there differences among the denominations (esp. Shi’a and Suni)?

Indeed

(Though, and this is just my opinion - not any kind of hard fact, many more people who call themselves “Muslim” have a take on Islam closer to the “Religious Right’s” take on Christianity than do the majority who call themselves Christian - gross generalisation of course, YMMV etc)

There is also the issue of how much the attitudes are really cultural dressed up as religious - and how much private practice and public pronouncements differ:-
