Island at War

I not only regret spending $2.00 on a DVD to record this puppy, I regret paying money for the electricity to run the TV while I watched it.

What were your issues? I saw little bits and pieces of it, and thought it was an interesting premise: life under the Nazis in the only part of Great Britain that had been invaded.

I kinda sorta wanted the good guys to win, not find out that there was a Nazi with a heart of gold. :frowning:
It would have been nice to resolve Zelda’s situation and find out what happened to various people after the war. Was the Baron tried for War Crimes and if so did the Doors testify for or against?

The Doors?

Don’t you love her madly?

Don’t you love her as she’s walking out the door.

I recorded last night’s episode but haven’t watched it yet. Was it the last one?

I’ve enjoyed the whole series mightily. Not sure which Nazi is going to have a “heart of gold”, but I’m okay with it. Maybe living amongst the Islanders was a humanizing influence.

Isn’t the series based on what really happened? Real people?

Yes, it was.

St. Gregory is fictional amd represents two of the channel islands. It is based on general events of the German occupation, but I don’t think the characters are real.

And what a stupid ending, too. You don’t stop an occupation story in the middle of the fucking war, people, okay?

There had better be a part 2 right around the corner.

OK, that would piss me off. If it didn’t make it to the end of the war, I guess I’m glad I didn’t get into it. Maybe I might if there is a second part and it all comes out on DVD to be seen all at once.

I wanted to see the townspeople dragging the Germans through the streets and making them cry like Lithuanian (Insert favorite European minority here) soccer players.

From what I’ve been reading, no. Check out the Masterpiece Theater bit, especially the bib & links section. Good stuff.

I get it on Mondays round my neck of the woods. I’ve been watching it and last week (after 4 of 5) I start to think, “How the hell are they gonna wrap this up in one more episode?”. Overall, I’m too impressed so far. But it beats anything else on TV.

I guess they don’t. I guess I’ll see the fantastic non-wrap-up in a few hours. I’ll also add that Mrs. Mahy is a jizz-bag.

It’s definitely worth watching - the worst PBS show is better than the best broadcast swill - but the ending is extremely disappointing. A couple of comments over on the IMDB boards indicate that this is the first in a series by ITV, though, so I’m going to rein back my outrage a little.

HOLY PREMENITION, BATMAN!

Dirty slapper! I didn’t see that “coming”.

Overall, pretty damn weak and soap-opera-ish. Not what I was expecting. But it helped pass the rainy, too cold to go out to the garage and entertain myself season. At least on Monday night.

Hurray for Nova and Frontline!

Well dayum! I guess I’ll have to make up my own ending. It’ll be a happy one.

It’s hard for me to bitch about the Baron showing some humanity, and giving POW status to Wilf, Mr. Dorr, and Philip. That’s what I wanted him to do, so it seems petty to carp about it as being unrealistic. So I won’t.

There’s a lot more drama left in these people. I hope they finish the story.

The terms Humanity and Nazi are mutually exclusive.
It ain’t goona be Col Klink and Hogan’s Heroes. I believe there were Russian POWs in Treblinka.
