Our kitchen chairs are perhaps a year old from a discount furniture store. Unfortunately, the construction is poor. I have done everything to bolster them, but alas nothing is lasting. I seek recommendations for any quality brands we might consider. Not sure of a price range (because that may limit quality), so let’s just talk decent furniture brands and/or decent furniture stores in the Mid-Atlantic?
Do you have a Raymour & Flanigan in a reasonable distance? They sell better quality but still affordable furniture.
Ethan Allen is another excellent furniture store for well made stuff.
As to brands, if you can still find them, Dinaire was excellent. We bought 6 chairs in 1997 and they’ve held up great. Still sturdy though we did replace the cushion material about 10 years ago.
They use to be out of Buffalo, but I think they were bought out or moved.
Here is a bit of an oddball idea that my wife and I did, we went to Amazon and bought office chairs. They are adjustable height, they have rollers, and are pretty comfortable. Of course they don’t look like traditional kitchen chairs.
We went this route because we just couldn’t justify the prices that were being charged for the kitchen chairs. We’ve had these for over 10 years and they are still holding up well.
Go to a second hand furniture store and see what they have. Often times they will carry older, sturdier chairs that have already survived use by a family. And at a reasonable price compared to new.
These are a bargain and really look comfortable.
Thanks, everyone! Great suggestions posted here, and it sounds like we’re not the only ones that have been down this road.
