ISO small favor from current/retired military personnel

Well, my grandfather finally passed away before Christmas at 96, and we bury him this Monday. Which explains why I’m sat in Toronto airport now…

Anyway, Grandad was an army guy - Royal Artillery sergeant, came through Dunkirk, El Alamein, the invasions of Sicily & Italy, and Monte Cassino. The army stayed a major part of his life.

So, to the favor. If you served in any armed forces, and you find yourself with a glass of anything in your hand this Monday night, raise a toast to Sgt Jack Pickett, a fallen comrade. I have to eulogized him at the funeral, and I’d think he’d get a chuckle from people across the globe using him as an excuse for a drink.

I’ll drink to his memory. That’ll be a shot of fine Kentucky Bourbon hoisted deep in the heart of Dixie for him.

Thank you both.

Slainte mhor, Sergeant.

I’m currently deployed to Afghanistan, so no alcohol allowed, but I will certainly raise a cup of coffee in honor of the departed Sgt Pickett.

I’ll raise a glass of Maker’s Mark.

To Sgt Jack Pickett. Thank you for fighting until the last.

You guys are the best - thank you (shouted loudly for the artillery people).
