Israeli Skyscraper Fire Escape System

Now this is freaking cool, although I wonder just how fast it is compared to people just running down stairs for their lives.

But how freaking neat is that?

So nobody else on the Dope thinks this is in any way innovative? Has this been posted before? Am I missing something?

Help!

I think it looks pretty cool. However, I enjoy a bit of panicking during fires. I never really get to panic so I’m taking every opportunity to when I can

As long as each floor doesn’t have more than six people, it looks great!

I’m afraid of heights, I think I would have trouble not panicking in one of those things. On the other hand, it is closed in and you can’t see out, so maybe it would be ok.

You would need more than several of those per building, though, as Boyo Jim notes, or it would take hours to evacuate everyone. And you would have to have plenty of well-trained folks to get the windows set up while the compartments are being sent up. Maybe this doesn’t replace going down fire stairs or even a fire escape, but it supplements it and provides egress for slow or disabled people.

The way it was setting up I thought it was going to deploy some sort of rappelling system, so I’m rather disappointed.

That is interesting.
Normally in a fire ADA goes out the window. Those with disabilities go last. They show a wheel chair going first.
Did you notice there were only 5 containers?
It would help in relocation buildings getting the disabled of the fire and relocation floors.

And a nit pick. In a fire drill of an evacuatin building you do not run down the stairs it is to dangerous the alarm anouncement will tell you to walk to the exits do not run.

A evacuation building call for the people on the involved floors to leave the building. A relocation building calls for the involved floors to relocate either 3 or 5 floors down if the fire is above the 7th floor.

I was expecting a giant air cushion.
