It is a shame that I must wear pants

Today was the first dress rehearsal for The Bacchae, and I was very excited to finally get into my full costume, have one of the makeup girls do up my face, and run through the play with all the costumes/lighting cues/props all ready to go. I notice that among the articles for the costume, there are a pair of pants.

I had worn brown boxer shorts that day, specifically because I didn’t plan on wearing pants for my costume. I play a guard, and I get this tunic thing that goes under my armor. It goes down low enough to cover up everything just fine, and considering how hot the stage seems to get (between running around backstage and all the lights) I thought that not having pants would make things easier. Besides, Pentheus didn’t have to wear pants!

As I am walking out of the changing room, I get stopped by the head of the costume department, who directs me to turn around and go back and put on the pants they provided. Damn it!

Geeze, this should be in the pit. Surely just the thought of being forced to wear pants makes everyone see red?

If only such wise words were heeded more often. Seriously, if ever there was a valid reason to get on stage without pants, this is it.

Personally, I’d like to get a time-share here.

“I hope Krusty does a routine about pants. These things are driving me crazy!”

“DON’T YOU HATE PANTS!”

Throws pants onstage, stalks out of thread

Yeah! No-pants solidarity!

You should have shaved your legs. That was your tactical error.
