I had an argument last night with two otherwise rational individuals about the extent to which “the Jews” control the US and the world. A discussion that began as a light hearted but general discussion of conspiracy theories turned a little bit weird when I realised that both my companions believe that “the Jews” or Israel controls the United States. I was a bit 
. I’m not too keen on Israeli policy vis a vis Gaza and the Palestinians but I understand it and I also understand most of the criticism levelled at the Israeli state of late, but why (otherwise sane, rational, educated) people believe that the US is controlled by “the Jews” I just can’t fathom.
In a country where most people believe in creationism and most don’t believe the Moon landings are real you find this surprising?
On present trends we’re going to have to start unilateral disarmament soon before we become too much of a danger to ourselves and the rest of the planet.
A nuclear-armed country full of people who really beleive all this stuff is about like a schizophrenic with a drinking habit and a large firearms collection.
Not that the BS believed by the Iranian or North Korean high command is any more rational.

I think the idea that “the Jews control the world” in the sense of “dictating all events/details” is ludicrous even to the nut jobs that espouse these sentiments. However I usually hear it more often couched in terms of how “the Jewish influence” far outweighs their numbers. For example, why SHOULD the US Foreign policy favor the creation and existence of the State of Israel over the obvious wishes not only of all its neighboring states, but a significant portion of the native population of the land as of its creation 60 years ago (the Palestinians)? It must because the media (newspapers, movies, music, etc.) is dominated by Jews, who then export their propaganda via US pop culture, etc., etc.
Same thing with the world financial crisis: Jews = money lenders = control world finance = cause financial bubbles. Why look at all the Jews on Wall Street! Lloyd Blankfein, head of Goldman Sachs; Alan Greenspan, the most influential Fed chief in recent memory; and so on. Any non-Jew in such a position can be overlooked as “an outlier” or else deemed under the control of behind-the-scenes Jews on the board of directors.
Anyone who actually knows a lot of Jews (especially across stripes of religious observancy) would think it’s rather ridiculous to think that there is some kind of unity directing “Jews” to think and act in world-wide concert. But of course, these folks don’t. Or else are capable of going even further in supposing it’s all a big act of discordance to throw off the suspicions of the world.
And the Jews think antisemites control the world, especially the U.N.
Either way, the world revolves around us!
Call me crazy if you will but I think the Jews control the government of Israel.

Seriously, I think there are specific Jewish groups (esp. AIPAC) that have managed to acquire more influence than their numbers would suggest them capable of. They’ve done this in large part by appealing to nutso evangelist Christians who support Israel because they believe that Israel is necessary for their messianic apocalyptic vision. So it’s not too hard to then get to the thought process that Jews are controlling US foreign policy, or whatever. Especially if you’re already a gullible moron to start with.
FWIW, I’m a Jew, I think AIPAC is despicable and have played a large part in creating an atmosphere among American Jews that makes it difficult to criticize Israeli policy without being accused of being a traitor, and I’m barely even in control of my own life, let alone anything else.
Geography is part of the Zionist Conspiracy.
And for some reason, the concept of the world being dominated by a bunch of white anglo saxons, which is what we would get if things are what they seem and there is no Jewish conspiracy, leave the same people completely unfazed.
The idea that Jews control the world is paranoid and delusional. But we really do control the media. That part is true.

Finding a scapegoat has a long history. If you can’t find a real goat, then it’s easiest to blame someone who is “other”. Historically, Jews have been easy to identify, and therefore wasy to blame for whatever ails you. Si it’s easy to see why local hayseed are able to point their fingers at John Stewart, Henry Kissinger and the rest of the political media complex.

Define “control the world”. Jewish people control dramatically more wealth per capita than any other ethnic group. There aren’t that many of them in terms of percentages but they have a huge and disproportionate amount of influence. How could you argue otherwise?
(note: I’m not saying this is a bad thing or that there is any sort of coordinated conspiracy, of course. But you can’t act like this notion just comes out of nowhere)
