The titles “programmer”, “software developer”, and “software engineer” might arguably be distinguishable in theory, but in practice, they aren’t. The theory says that a “software engineer” emphasizes engineering practices while a “programmer” is a code monkey. In reality, you pretty much don’t stand a chance of putting together a non-trivial program together without using some engineering techniques (whether or not you recognize them as such is another matter), so the distinction isn’t really important.
