We are having some construction work done on our house, and there are a couple of workers here putting in new stair treads. I came back from the gym, and opened the garage door, and was greeted by a beautiful white Husky. The dog was very friendly, and came up and wanted to be petted. I figured that the construction guys had brought the dog to work with them. I mentioned it to my wife, and she said that she had met the dog, too, and had asked the guys the dog’s name, but couldn’t understand their answer. A little while later, one of the guys came over to my office to ask me a question. The dog followed him. Neither of the workers spoke much English, so I was having problems understanding what they wanted, but the work they were doing looked really nice, so I left it at that. As I was leaving, I asked them what the dog’s name was. They looked at me with a puzzled expression. After much pantomiming, it finally dawned on me that - it wasn’t their dog. They thought it was my dog. They had left the front door open, and the dog wandered in. I looked at the dog’s tag, and her name was Maya. I called the owner, and she immediately answered with “you must have Maya.” She couldn’t come get her for a few hours, so I worked in my office, and Maya slept on the floor, when she wasn’t pawing me to pet her. The owner just came and got her, and thanked me for keeping her safe.
I thought this would be about light bulbs.
Yeah, dogs are pretty good sometimes.
What a lovely story. Huskies don’t stay put very well; there’s lots of stuff to explore in the world and… squirrel! Bunny! Deer!
Oh boy! I hope Maya visits me too!
Good dogs just know they’re welcome anywhere.
This story reminded me of a neighbor’s husky when I was in elementary school. The dog loved riding in cars. So much so it decided it would come with us when Mom took too long getting my brother settled in his car seat with the door hanging temptingly open. Eventually the neighbor coaxed it out ![]()
This reminds me of a fun internet story I heard about a dog named Otis.
The author works at a pet friendly office, with dog bowls and beds around, and is the only member of staff without a dog. A lady comes in with Otis the Bassett Hound, frantically trying to drop him off for a bit, and the author thinks “I guess she knows someone here, or something” and lets the dog stay. At the end of the day, the lady comes back for the dog and asks how much she owes. Author then realizes the lady was trying to drop her dog off at the doggy daycare across the way. Otis was a lovely guest, but not trying to be taken advantage of, author says $20.
The rest of the office has a laugh, except the lady comes back the next week, then multiple times a week, because $20 is way cheaper than any other place around, and the author loves having an office pet.
They’re all good dogs
Awwww. I love things like that.
I want a visitation from a Husky.
Give ‘Maya’ my address, pls.
