After moping around for most of my adult life, gaining an education as useful as a pretty pink fluff collection, I finally got a job, part time.
Granted, it has no connection to what I have been doing up til now, but the hours are great, the perks are stunning and the pay is awesome. And I get to drive heavy machinery.
And it feels so good to be useful. I’m doing something that affects the everyday life of so many people. I’m performing a needed service.
And you know what? Doing weekend work and maybe being somewhat effective on the overtime, I could probably support myself, and maybe get my SO through his education (which, contrary to mine, is useful and makes him highly employable.)
If we elect to stay in this city permantly, I may apply for a full-time job here. Academia can go screw itself in that case.
So, mundane and pointless, but I just realised why working is so important to a persons happiness. I finally feel like I have worth to the rest of society.
