It feels so surreal to be typing that statement. I’ve become so cynical and discouraged about querying lit agents that my first inclination was to assume it was a scam. Kept waiting for the moment when I was asked to send money. But an author that this agent claims to have represented in the past confirmed it via email. I now have a signed contract. So although I’m still having difficulty wrapping my head around it, I guess I need to start regarding it as real.
One casualty of the process is that I’m taking down my posted chapters. I appreciate all the feedback I’ve been receiving, and if you’ve been reading along as I’ve posted and would like to see more, send me a direct message or an email and I will sent you an evaluation copy as an advance reader copy via which I will continue to solicit comments and feedback.
It’s possible that I’m one of this agent’s first clients. It appears that he successfully represented an author and decided this is something he should pursue with other authors. But so far it has passed all the scam tests without me detecting any offputting smells. (e.g., I’m not being asked for money or to add my name to anything)
I sent over 800 queries to lit agents pertaining to this book, and the first book (for which I never landed a lit agent) was the topic of over 1400 of them.
