To be specific, Norway now has a new heir to the throne, the first girl to be born to this position ever in this country. Her name, Ingrid Alexandra, has been announced in an extraordinary cabinet meeting.
She was born at 9:13 in the morning on January 21st, weighing 3686 grams (8 lbs 5 oz) and measuring 51 centimeters (20 inches). Mother and baby are reportedly doing very well, resting at home after leaving the National Hospital early, and the proud new pappa is running off at the mouth like a jibbering idiot just as he should be.
How sweet! There’s going to be lots of queens in the next few decades; I count three (possibly four) out of Europe’s 10 remaining monarchies:
Ingrid, future Queen of Norway (born 2004)
Elisabeth, future Queen of Belgium (born 2001)
Victoria, future Queen of Sweden (born 1977)
Catharina-Amalia, possible future queen of the Netherlands (born 2001); she’s heir-apparent right now, but could be knocked out of her place in line by a younger brother.
