Ingagi – pre-Code 1931 film “documentary” (actually exploitation) about Africa, Its big selling point was a gorilla abs=ducting a woman, which may have inspired/allowed king Kong to be made

Son of Ingagi – really pretty unrelated horror film with an all-black cast

The Golem was a serious 1915 horror film about the jewish legend of an artificial man

The 1916 (or 1917, depending on your source) sequel, The Golem and the Dancing Girl, was a comedy

Heck, King Kong was a serious horror flick, while the sequel, Son of Kong, made by the same people (with many of the same actors) was a comedy (necessarily, since they had a fraction of the budget and the time to make it.)
