So, we’re having our roof fixed. The guy who is doing it is a guy that deployed with my husband back in '91, so that’s kind of weird, but not that unusual, since he’s trying to get back in the unit again and so that’s how we found out he’d fix the roof.
Yesterday, he sent his guys out to the house to work on the roof and my husband said one of the guys looked really familiar, but he couldn’t place how or why. He never got around to asking the guy for his name, and didn’t mention it to me, as it was just one of those things. This morning, after I left to take the kids to school and head to work, my husband showered and got ready to head to the armory (they are leaving for a 3-week AT on Saturday, and as supply, he wants to make sure he’s got all his ducks lined up so nothing gets forgotten). He heard the guys out there getting started on the roof and went to say good morning and see if they needed anything before he locked up and took off for the day.
Familiar guy was out there smoking a cigarette, and was giving my husband the don’t-I-know-you look, so my husband says to him, “you know, you look really familiar, but I just can’t place your name – what is it?” Familiar guy tells my husband his name and says “you know, you look really familiar to me, too – who the hell are you?” My husband, about to burst out laughing, says:
Your brother-in-law!
So, yeh. We haven’t seen/spoken to him since 2004 – it’s a long story, but suffice it to say I have no love loss there. Hopefully, he has changed from how he used to be (I doubt it) but I expect he will likely be there when I get off work today and want to chat. Talk about it being a small world full of coincidences.
