It's about time for a new job...

Any suggestions?

I’m not really looking for career advice here (well, I am sort of) but I’m curious as to what you guys think a cool, fun job would be.

I’m currently in the Financial Services/Trading field (7-8 yrs) and I do like what I do, just not where I do it. I’ve done things in the past as diverse as running a cheezy little Mailboxes, Etc. type place in a strip mall to training Air Traffic Controllers at the world’s busiest (or it used to be, anyway) So I’m pretty much convinced that I can do just about anything.

I’m reasonably intelligent, good with numbers, decent tech skills (can’t write code, so maybe not) and good with people (to a point, I can’t stand ignorance and stupidity)

My dilemma is that I feel like it is time to make a change but I can’t decide what to consider, do or where to go. Do I start all over in a new field? Do I suck it up and stay where I am? Become a lemming and hook up with some huge multi-national corp.? Or just switch firms and do a similar type-thing for a different company?

Oh, by the way, I am NOT a suit and tie type of guy. Haven’t worn one for over 5 years and I don’t intend to start now.

I know the possibilities are limitless, but what would you do?

I have no idea what your new career should be, but this thread was on page two with no responses since nine this morning. It’s just languishing, like Theda Bara with a hangover. Sigh.

Some of the things you’ve done sound kinda boring. (I’m sorry, but you did ask.)

If I had it to do all over again, I’d make some pottery, or weave some nice rugs. That Chihuly (sp?) guy has cornered the market on glass blowing, or else I’d try that.

It’s time to break the moldy mold, Spolvy. Have one of your friends write career choices on scraps of paper. Toss 'em up and grab one.

Krispy Kreme is probably in need of help. CrankyAsAnOldMan’s about to bump their annual sales by about 10%.
Peace,
