Agreed. Although I don’t really like the (original) song very much, that is one of my favorite examples of John Bonham’s talent. That’s (on paper) a boring drum line, and he makes it sing. I admit, Jason does a very, very good job with it.
Cool - nice to hear you agree; you know your drumming stuff.
You don’t like the original? How come? It is one of my favorite Zep songs and I think of it as their masterpiece - certainly more than Stairway :). It embodies Zep to me - blues, rock, Middle Eastern and other influences - all packaged into a Brontosaurus-heavy groove that is deceptively hard to get right…
If I had a ticket, I’d sell it to you for a nickle. I have a deep, irrational hatred for Led Zeppelin.
I don’t know, something about 60 year old men strutting and preening like they’re 30 just doesn’t do it for me, but if they’re having fun and the fans like it, then who am I to judge.
Wait a minute, John Paul Jones is still alive? I hadn’t realized that. I might have be confusing him with John Entwistle, but I think I thought he was gone. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any interviews with JPJ, or heard anything about him.
Last night my local radio station did a story on the concert, and they played some of Kashmir, maybe the whole song. I assumed it was from the record, but maybe it was the concert because it did seem a little different. I hadn’t heard them say when the concert was happening.
