It's finally arrived - The 1000 dollar remote control!

Check it out!

Bah, considering I am always looking for my remote, for a $1000 I need a remote that will come when I call it.

For less that that, you can get a regular universal remote and a Roomba to duct-tape it to. Then, when you want to call it, just drop something on the floor and the Roomba comes scurrying to clean up.

What can it do that this

can’t? I guess it has .wav capabilities.

My parents love their lower end Harmony, mind you. They get confused by turning things on and off in sequence. And the RF repeater feature means they no longer have to worry about the tables blocking the signal.

I’d hate for them to try to figure out my setup. Two computers, one TV, PS2, Wii, DVD player, DVR, straight Cable run, external amp, external secondary amp, and 2.1 to 8.1 sound, depending on how ambitious I’m feeling and if I want to run the speakers out.

Sniff :frowning: , Godspeed!

I notice that at $1000, it’s not complete - you also need to purchase the base unit.

There’s actually a handful of remotes at the $1000 price area. Marantz and Philips have a couple up there, and then there’s ones like AMX that are truly custom and need to be installed and configured by a specialist. This is for the “money is no object, and I want to be able to press one button and have the blinds close, the projector lowered from the ceiling, the curtains over the screen open and the movie starts playing” crowd. “Oh, and can it also turn on the popcorn machine?”

The answer to that, naturally, is “Yes.”

Spits or swallows?

For a thousand dollars…it better swallow, and be back in the morning before work.

That’s awesome. Colour touch-screen LCD to control your entire home theatre, and while you’re watching that blockbuster on your 6.1 surround system and 60" plasma, you can snap the key off the side, open 'er up and eat the ham within. Brilliant!

I am old enough to remember being the remote control for my father - “Turn to channel 5 - na, try channel 8 - no, go back to 5, ok, turn it up a bit, ok - now stand there a second…move the antenna a little to the left, no, back right, yes - there, and as long as you are up, get me a beer from the fridge.” I thought being the remote control was a part of childhood.

I bought a nice universal remote for my television/DVR/DVD burner/amp and got ALMOST all of it to work except the television which is the Walmart ILO brand, and they do not advertise their codes!!! You cannot find them on the Internet and when I called, they simply refused to give it to me!
Seems the television is actually a major name brand (just with the ILO brand for Walmart) and I guess they think if people get the code, they will know who really produces the television and be pissed off if they spent more for the name-brand television elsewhere.

Try codes for Funai . Not much more of a household name, really.

You can also try looking them up at Underwriters Laboratories Look on the back of the set for the UL logo and a 5-7 digit number that probably starts with “E” - plug that number into the search tool, and it will tell you the actual maker.

$1000 for a remote? Peanuts. There are remotes out there that cost more than that just for installation.

Crestron makes some pretty cool stuff.

That remote in the link, by the way, is $9,000 to $15,000, depending on installation costs. Some people have one of those in every room of their house. I’ve seen theater installations with several of those types of displays.

Here’s a page that has approximate prices for various remote control solutions
