It's "Merry Christmas," not "Happy Holidays."

Christ I hate this “war on Christmas” manufactured outrage douchebaggery.

It really shows how many people are stupid sheep that can be so easily made to feel like they being threatened by literally nothing. It shouldn’t surprise me anymore, but I guess that last shred of respect I have for humanity demands it.

“Get your sorry ass back over here right now or i’ll cut you! Now where’s my money, bitch!”

You know what else is 99% observed tradition? Using the damn shift keys.

A generic greeting like “Happy Holidays” doesn’t address individuals as individuals, and doesn’t show them much respect. If you’re not sure whether or not “Merry Christmas” is appropriate, then just don’t say anything. After all, you can’t even be sure that the person you’re addressing actually observes any holiday during this time of year. Wouldn’t want to take a chance on offending him, would you?

In any case, any non-Christian who gets offended at being wished a merry Christmas is being hypersensitive and unreasonable. In the United States, most people identify with Christianity, and the “Merry Christmas” greeting/farewell is quite common this time of year. Expecting Christians to walk on egg shells during the Christmas holidays certainly shows a lack of respect for Christians.

The person who’s offended at being wished a Merry Christmas is the one who’s being a jerk, not the one who is simply expressing his good will during the Christmas season.

That was because New Year’s comes so close to Christmas. It wasn’t because they were trying to accommodate each and every possible religion that might exist within the borders of the United States.

You do understand that you are not obligated to extend any holiday greetings at all, right?

Hannukah, sure, but Kwaanzaa? That fake, made-up holiday that almost no one actually observes? Get real.

Season’s Greetings, because fuck you, that’s why.

I wish everyone here a hot squelchy Saturnalia debauch!

yeah, we’re supposed to wish each other a happy patron saint nicholas day

for me the days leading up to the big day(s) are a part of the holiday season, so in the meantime happy holidays!

With your repeated concerns about the most proximal holiday, you have confused Christmas with the Islamic holiday of Ashura.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Don’t you know the meaning of Christmas? Are you some kind of subversive, trying to undermine Christmas by going about wishing people Merry Christmas on regular old ordinary days, or even worse, on days proximal to Muslim holidays?

Jesus H. Christ!

I celebrate Festivus, myself, so your Airing of Grievance fits right in, pathetic as it is.

Happy Holidays!

I’ve never seen anyone behave like this. Have you? Was it an isolated incident, like the atheist who objects to having someone wish him a blessed day, or is quite common where you live?

I’m offended. We Cthulhuvians don’t have holidays. You will not be among the first ones eaten.

So true.

It is a pain in the ass. I get Christmas off without asking for it but I often have to plead for Rosh Ha’shanah and Yom Kippur.

Chaag so’maach to you too, dear.

Thing is, non Christians don’t get offended by such. The only people getting offended are conservative activists who think they can use an issue like this as a lever. The hypersensitivity is coming exclusively from pussies such as yourself, who look at any non-validation of what makes you so particularly special as a “war.”

Someone tell me where the damn party is, already!

You all sit here on your high horses and judge. My father lost an arm in the War on Christmas, and you all just think it’s something to make fun of on a message board? Fuck you all, and Merry Christmas.

Too bad that people like the OP forget that one of the important aspects of Christmas is a generous spirit. A generous spirit would imply that one accept the greeting in the spirit in which it is offered, rather than getting all pissy about the specific words.

His shift key couldn’t take the stupid anymore, and committed suicide.
