It's nearly Holloween. I'm starting a "Willard" Watch.

A year or two ago I posted an informal observation: the 70’s movie “Willard” has fallen off the face of the earth. Personally speaking, the post is as true today as it was then.

Now granted, this movie was not exactly “Hamlet.” But it caused quite a sensation among pimply schoolboys when it was originally released, and even inspired a sequel, “Ben” (which Ukelele Ike pointed out, won an Oscar – or was it a Grammy – for Michael Jackson who sang the title song).

Anyway, I swear that I have not seen one frame, nor heard one little rat-peep of “Willard” in lo the past 25 or more years.

What has become of this flick? Is some local station out there in Greater Doperville running a “Willard” marathon for Halloween? If so, let us know about it here.

I had heard that there was going to be a remake coming out soon.

Good question. I have also wondered about the disappearance of these films. Maybe there was litigation over the film. Can’t think of any other reason the movie wouldn’t at least show up on late-night schlock-theater TV.

After a quick Google search, I give you the remake, with Crispin Glover as Willard. Filming has been completed, it seems.
