'It's not a tumah'- no wait, it is

Good to get caught up on the updates, and I’m so glad to hear things are going well. What a cool thing to see this outpouring of support from the Web!

You’re a wonderful brother and human being, Marley, ya know that? Big hugs to you, very gentle hugs to Tyler. You kids B it up good over there! I’ll try to hold down the fort here.

Thanks for the update! Hang in there… Hugs to you and your whole family. Your dad sounds like a terrific guy.

Thanks for the updates, it’s good to hear that Tyler’s doing so well. You’re an exceptional brother!

I’m still reading. I’m glad to hear Tyler is doing okay.

Thank you for the updates! My best to your brother and you. I look forward to hearing how this progresses.

Tyler’s surgery started late today, but he should be done around now. (The delay was just one of those hospital things, not because he had any problems.) He hated waiting around for a test on Tuesday; today I guess it doesn’t matter one way or the other for him.

The hospital visits haven’t been nearly as bad as I’d worried, maybe because I’m not there all day and the progress reports are good. Since he won’t be awake today and might start regaining consciousness tomorrow, I think I will rest up tonight and spend more time with him Saturday.

Today’s surgery is complete, without any problems or anything. So that should be it for the major operations.

That’s good to hear, Marley. I hope his recovery is just as smooth.

Glad to hear the update. Hope the recovery goes as smoothly. Good thoughts and prayers still headed your way.

Prayers and good thoughts continuing for Tyler and the whole family Marley.

Great news, marley --so he is to go home on Tuesday? What about occupational therapy and perhaps physical therapy(?). And speech therapy as well.

He will tire easily at first, but 14 recovers faster than just about any age. I like the B-fest idea–any way to tape the Aussie Open or similiar for him to watch?

He’s moving from the ICU around Tuesday. We’re expecting to take him home next Sunday or so.

That’s been one of the encouraging things so far. He’s handled all of the surgery well from the physical perspective - soon he’ll have to start dealing with it mentally.

I don’t think any of our VCRs work right, and if my dad couldn’t fix them I certainly can’t. So I’ll write about it, and hopefully what it lacks in visuals will be made up for in the personal nature of it. I have some other gift ideas, too- and he’ll need to kill some time over the next week and after he gets home. I don’t know about the physical or speech therapy things. Speech therapy seems sensible. I know that he’ll have a tutor so he can finish ninth grade on time. He’s really looking forward to that.

I missed this the first time around, but I’m glad to hear things are going well so far.

Best of luck Marley :).

Checking on y’all. How was the weekend?

Tyler had an additional minor surgery tonight (I didn’t know about it in advance, so that was a little alarming to hear) to put a shunt in his spine. That’ll come out in about a month.

I saw him Saturday, and he was certainly unconscious, but less sedated by a longshot. As far as I know, it’s still possible he’ll have the breathing tube out and leave the ICU tomorrow. I’m looking forward to speaking to him.

Meanwhile I’ve hit on one other gift idea: I’m writing a Simpsons fanscript in which the three of us end up in Springfield. (Our plane is hijacked by Snake… you guess the joke.) I did a little bit of radio comedy in college, Tyler seemed to dig that, and if we get it on CD he can listen repeatedly if it’s amusing enough and he’s bored enough. It’s about 1/3rd done now.

Cool idea! Keep us posted.
Do the folks know about the tattoo yet?

They don’t, actually. I wear long sleeves for work, so I’ll probably just stop and let the news get out over the weekend.

The important thing today is that Tyler is off the tube, breathing on his own and speaking. My mom is reading to him, probably from The Phantom Tollbooth series, or maybe My Father’s Dragon. He cursed at my dad, so I think everything’s normal. I look forward to seeing him tonight and yelling, like he made me promise, “WELCOMME TO THE WOOOORLD OF TOMOORRROW!”

Marley, I love your Simpsons idea. You should submit the script, maybe they’ll use it! “Snake’s on a Plane!”

Keep that great sense of humor. We’re all pulling for you and your family.

I might do that, but it’s not like they’re going to do an episode about me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tyler was definitely more awake today. Definitely not enough for a real conversation - he’s on morphine and Ativan, I think - but he was tossing and turning even more than over the weekend, and he did manage to speak a little. Mostly he squirmed. He was ready to go home and tried to leave once or twice, but that’s not happening. It’s become more clear to me how uncomfortable he is, and how much more discomfort he’s going to deal with as he recovers.

When I got ready to leave, I told Tyler I’d be back tomorrow. He leaned over and groaned something. I had to have him repeat it.

“We tight,” he said.
“Yeah, we tight.” We knocked fists.

Your family’s love for each other is powerful medicine, Marley.
