It's not easy being green

If you could press a button that would turn everyone in the world the exact same shade of green, would you push it? If yes, what shade?

I would push the button, and I think jade would be a nice shade to go with.

Ok guys, **Czarcasm **is officially out of thread ideas. Time to close up shop.

Not really, but thanks for not playing. It’s a way to discuss whether having everyone be the same color would solve problems or create more problems, and by picking green I avoid using any colors that people might already prefer due to environment.

I don’t know. I love my caramel skin. While I think the girl in the Star Trek movie had a lovely skin tone, I like all of the beautiful variety in the world.

It would prevent discrimination on the basis of skin color, but I’m sure we’d find some other reason to hate each other.

If I did, though, that Islamic green on the color chart you linked to (thank you!) would be lovely.

Probably not. Green’s not my favorite color to begin with and I don’t expect it would even come close to making a dent in discrimination.

Wow. You know, this didn’t even occur to me. My thought pattern was, “Green, yuck! That’s my least favorite color. I wouldn’t want to be green, nor would I want to look at a bunch of green people.” The idea that we would all be the same color never entered my mind.

That said, even if you picked a lovely shade of pink (my favorite color, which is fortunate, because it’s basically the color I am already), I still wouldn’t want to make everyone the same color. Diversity makes us beautiful, and the people who discriminate based on color would just find some other difference to use as a divider.

is this just a skin pigment or would it be something otherwise useful like a chloroplast?

I’m going to be honest: I thought that the question was asking about everything in the world.

Now that I’ve read it - still no. People would still be prejudiced against other identifiers, and I like variety in a crowd.

I voted no. I like variety. Besides, if everyone was the same color, people would have no problem finding other arbitrary means of separating each other. My cite? The Sneetches, by Dr. Seuss.

Just skin pigment.

Orion Green would seem to be the obvious choice of shade. But I don’t think it would solve any problems.

I’d do it, because it would amuse me. From your chart, I’d pick aspasagus, camouflage, celadon, moss (which looks nothing like moss), or tea green. And what’s up with “pigment green?” Isn’t everything pigment colored?

It would cut down on “driving while black” police stops.

I thought this was going to be about recycling and fossil fuels.

Push a button and trash is automatically sorted and cars are running on water.

I like green, just the plain green, like the color of grass. Green would be no fun without other colors, if everything was green there would be no concept of green.

BTW, you don’t have to use my chart to pick your shade from-for instance, Playdoh Green.

Not everything-just people.

No. Not really into green dudes.

Nope. Unless I’m misinformed there’s a reason for skin pigmentation regarding tolerance of the sun and its heat and glare. While that’s no longer a factor in first world countries, it most probably is in some third world nations.

Wouldn’t cut down on “pulled over for matching profile” though. Just shift the criteria away from skin tone.
