$200 billion. And counting.
This just out: http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1390207,00.html
Quotes from article:
“The torture and degrading treatment of prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantánamo Bay have undermined the credibility of the US as a defender of human rights and opponent of terrorism, the New York-based Human Rights Watch says in its annual report.”
"The report says that America’s disregard of human rights has encouraged other countries to follow suit:
· Egypt has defended a decision to renew “emergency” laws by referring to US anti-terror legislation
· Malaysia justifies detention without trial by invoking Guantánamo
· Russia cites Abu Ghraib to blame abuse in Chechnya solely on low-ranking soldiers.
But there are few signs in Washington of a change of approach. The White House secretly persuaded Congress to overturn legislation passed last month by a 96-2 Senate vote that would have imposed restrictions on extreme interrogation methods, the New York Times reported yesterday. "
Way to go US Admin !!
A new thread should be started for this topic. I am a bit busy now, but will do it later if there still isnt one.
Sin
I knew there were no WMDs the minute our tanks rolled into Bagdad itsself.
There is no way that a man of Saddam Hussein’s general character would permit that to happen with out using every possible weapon at his disposal.
He didn’t hit us, he didn’t try to hit Kuwait.
He didn’t have em.
Or the UK, asshole.
Being a foreigner, you wouldn’t know that that was a reference to the Kerry-Bush debates televised in the US, when Kerry listed the teeny countries that were in the coalition (NOT the UK, but places like Tonga) and Bush said, “Don’t forget Poland!” This was epecially rich because Bush said it the same day that Poland announced that they were pulling out of Iraq.
In short, you’re an uninformed moron.
This was all true until 1979. To say its our fault for Saddam coming to power and then declaring war on the Iranians and then the Kuwaitis thus bankrupting and destroying his countrys economy and its infrastructure, is absurd.
I don’t know about the UK, but yes, the Iraq-Iran war was bankrolled by large amounts of US aid to Saddam, on the theory that the enemy of our enemy is our friend.
Yes, in loans. To say Iraq was some sort of ‘it’ll do’ society under Hussein is just laughable.
Before he came to power Iraq had some sort of chance of being first world, albeit it had problems with Kurds and Shias, wealth distribution but as soon as Hussein came to power, all bets were off, he fucking ruined Iraq with the regime he had in place. Putting blame on foreign powers is intellectual lazyness.
Even if the foreign power had a direct hand in helping them? Remember, SH was once our boy, (wasn’t he Rummy’s buddy?), we have to share some of the blame.
Who is too blame?
WHO THE FUCK IS TO BLAME???
Is there going to be any accountability over this war and the fact that somewhere along the way somebody completley fucked up?? WMD “Intelligence”? Decision to go to war on such crappy intel??
We invaded another country on information that was not true, whether it was outright deception or incompetence somebody has to be held accountable. Aren’t conservatives all about accounatability???
Well, yes, until Sept. 11. You see, September 11 changed everything…
The Buck Stops Nowhere!
Accountability? Blame? Deception? Incompetence? Doesn’t matter.
As long as you’re loyal to Bush, and tell him what he wants to hear, he’ll give you the Presidential Medal of Freedom instead. The insult that gives to all others who have been given it deservingly only adds to his pile.
Ah, I wonder if 'Luci saw the GOP equation on last night’s Daily Show:
Yeah, 9/11 was a tragedy–I was here, saw the Pentagon burn from my office–but the way Bush has ridden it to scare his followers into utter tharn is nothing short of obscene.
Dude, your fox had been in a fucking cage for a decade, eating his own offspring.
When the next terrorist attack occurs on U.S. soil, and the rest of the world doesn’t leap up to America’s aid, remember why.
I find politicians in general are for accountability, except when it’s their own. In those cases it’s about “putting this behind me and moving on with my life”.
Who should be found responsible for this current debacle? They just got a huge stamp of approval from the electorate. All we can do now is keep this in mind when Condi runs for pres one day.
You’re wrong. If there is a serious attack and there is a valid target the world will be right beside the States just like they were after 9/11. Of that there is no question.
It’s the bullshit wars that a lot of the rest of the world has problems with.
WMD’s? Horseshit. Every intell report I’ve read on the web(mostly British) was heavily laden with qualifications. When politicians told us about these reports they talked of certainties. Blair talked of 45mins. This 45mins in the intel was if there was field ready WMD they could be launched at the troops (not another country as the weapons that were being talked about only had a very short range). Blair made no qualifications and when the gutter press(The Sun) took up the story and put a picture of a missile going from Iraq to the UK with a huge **45MINS ** on it’s front page people were very concerned. Did a politician come out and say the story was wrong and sensationalist? Did they fuck! They sat back and let the spin doctors do their work. They did it very well.
Humanitarian reasons? You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.
This war was fought for strategic gain in the middle east. They haven’t even achieved that.
And advisors. And battlefield intelligence. And weapons. And WMDs.
Not as much as your willful ignorance of history.
You bet! Here at Casa 'Luci, it’s family hour! The Hair Apparent and I never miss it, though I really wish they’d drop the shit about yanking the chains of people in the sticks. Just wish they’d stop stealing my material…
The thing that really torques me is that, in the fetid swamp of ignorance and malice in which he wallows, still the real-life Ryan Liam gets to speak with an English accent, and sound all intellectual and well-informed.
