They were at Fred Meyer (a Target-like store hereabouts) in the area normally reserved for garden plants and flowers. There were maybe a hundred, most still wrapped up with twine. Considering many of them get cut down this early, is it no wonder the needles fall off the trees so quickly once in your home?
Of course, ornaments, lights and all other things Christmassy have been on sale inside the store for several weeks already.
Holy cow. I’ve seen the fake ones for sale at CostCo and Michael’s, but real ones? How can anyone stand having a tree for almost two months? (Me, my toleration is about 10 days. Then I can’t wait to get it out.)
But hey, does Fred Meyer still sell that great spinach dip? Mmmmm. I was sorry when our store closed, and that’s the reason why.
Getting a real tree this early leaves you with a dried-out fire hazard before you get to December.
I’m just starting to freak out because I’m noticing the increased volume at the malls already. I hate crowds, but need to get my Christmas shopping done in the next two weeks because I’m moving out of the country really soon and I’m not going shopping in the States to ship presents back to Montreal! Normally all my shopping’s done by now, but I’ve been busy. Maybe I’ll just buy online. Or fold money into origami swans and give those as presents. Because oh God do I hate the malls at Christmas.
And of course, all the pretty sparkly decorations and the lights are making me pre-homesick, because I don’t get Christmas with my family this year for the first time ever. Why does it have to start so early?
