Yes, Tartan Day has arrived! The 686th Anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath, 1320, colloquially known as Scotland’s Declaration of Independence.
Go out and hug a Scot (or reasonable facsimile) today!
And here’s a nice tune to hum while you’re at it!
Nice to say this is a day for Scotland, seeing as I’m quarter-Scot myself, but – pishtosh! The Declaration was just an appeal to the Pope, and a document saying that if anyone copied what Baliol did and kneel down before English kings, they’d find out the errors of their way quick smart. A bit of a whiney “See what the nasty English did! They’re not helping you like we would!” kind of paper.
I still reckon Bannockburn is more worthy of note.
<looks around at the cat>
There-I’m hugging my own self. Of the clan Macleod, meself.
I wore my Keith tartan mini kilted skirt to work today!
