Did we actually witness an Academy Award Show finish on time?
Good night everyone it was fun watching with you all.

Try The Hudsucker Proxy. It’s a great Coen Brothers movie, funny, and not violent at all. A lot of people love The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona as well, and neither are disconcerting or scary.
18 minutes over.
Died 2008.
The Coens are my heroes. It’s been a good night for me.
So did Heath Ledger and he was included. I always assumed it showed people who died since the last Oscars ceremony.
Yep, once again, it was another fun year of Oscars on the SDMB.
So did Heath Ledger. The intro to the montage said that the deaths were between February 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008.
Oh, yeah. I can’t imagine why then. Maybe someone goofed.
I think Hudsucker is a little overmannered and not their best work. I would suggest either The Big Lebowski (which has grown on me over the years to become one of my all time favorite movies), which has some minor, comic violence but nothing really graphic or serious or Oh Brother, Where Art Thou which is also quite funny, non-violent, has great bluegrass music and an under-appreciated performance from George Clooney (“We’re in a tight spot!”)
I thought this was an enjoyable telecast… everything seemed generally less phony than it usually seems, for some reason. Maybe because so many of the winners didn’t seem like Established Hollywood Stars? Plus the generally informal tone set by Jon Stewart?
I actually think The Big Lebowski is kinda over-rated (but I’ve only seen it once, and my friends keep telling me I need to see it multiple times to appreciate it) but I really did like O Brother, Where Art Thou?. It does have some great music.
Can’t wait for the red carpet snark from the gofugyourself girls tomorrow. Heh.
Liked Jon Stewart a lot but show didn’t have any energy.
Liked Diablo Cody’s comments. Her family loves her just the way she is.
I esp like seeing Johnny Depp all cleaned up and beautiful in that suit. sigh
Yeah, “Once” was my favorite movie last year and since it was too small to compete against the biggies, I was thrilled to see it recognized through “Falling Slowly”. And it’s hard to imagine that anyone listening to all the nominated songs would conclude that any of them were better than “FS”. Incidentally, that was an abbreviated version of the song. It builds and soars in it’s complete version. How cool of Jon Stewart to bring Marketa back out. It sounded like the crowd was really behind her and Glen and were as delighted by the win as I was.
This is absolutely true. I thought it was just ok the first time I saw it. I didn’t really start appreciating it until about the third time I watched it. I think the secret to appreciating this movie is to completely ignore the plot. Upon first viewing the plot seems muddled and confusing and aimless and has no real payoff. Trying to follow it results in irritation and a sense that it’s all pointless. Once you understand that the plot is supposed to be muddled and pointless and go nowhere, you’ll start to love the movie. It’s not about the plot whatsoever. It’s about the individual scenes. the dialogue and the way all this stuff gets filtered through the Dude’s fuzzy hardware. It’s a half-understood, highly weird, confusing episode in the life of the Dude and his buddies. Obce you stop caring where the story is going (it’s going nowhere) you really start getting what’s great about it.
Speaking of Oscars, John Goodman should have gotten one for this movie. The endless wittiniess and quoteability of the screenplay blows me away too. As does Jeff Bridges’ performance.
The more I think about it, the more stuff I think of that’s great about Lebowski. I now adore this movie but it took a few viewings.
Does it only include nominees and winners? Heath was nominated, Brad Renfro was not.
OK, confused. What is the difference between sound editing and sound mixing? 2 different awards, both went to that Bourne movie. Must be good to beat out the eerily silent (but noises of utter importance) NC4OM.
Sound Editing: Is laying effects, etc. You’re basically making the sound recorded on set better. It is the stage before sound mixing. When I did sound, it was what I did.
Sound mixing: is putting all the aspects of the soundtrack together (dialogue, music, sound effects, foley). A few friends of mine are reasonably successful at this. One, I suspect, will be up on stage at some point.
No.
Not me. She’s quite homely.
